Is it Hickson? The freshman coming in taking other's minutes. I thought I heard some rumblings about that somewhere.

I seriously don't think that is even close to true.

He took a team that hadn't seen the tourney in years to the dance almost every year and had them advancing.

You have no idea what he would have done, but I think it was best for him to leave. I hope State goes back to the days of hoping for an NIT bid.

This is part of it. Hickson is getting a lot of McCauley's minutes.

Check the records. In Herb's last 5 years ( all NCAA tourney years), they averaged a record of 21-11, 4th in the ACC, and getting dropped in the NCAA second round. While that was a nice change from the Les Robinson years, it wasn't improving at all beyond that point. The system Herb played didn't bring great athletes in, just specialty role players ( mainly big dudes who could dribble and shoot 3's and NO point guards ever).
21-11 and 4th in the ACC was pretty much the best they could hope for.
Sidney did a pretty good job last year w/ Herb's leftovers ( at least they finished strong). I'll be glad after he brings in a couple of his own classes.

Nothing's going to change until Sid gets all these guys to playing hard.

No one has any idea what he would have done. He certainly didn't deserve to be run out.

The main problem, I believe, was the fact that Herb didn't seem to acknowledge the fact that UNC is a "must win" game to State fans. He tried to play it down as "just another game", and that just wasn't going to fly... That's why when Sid came to town, sporting the red blazer, State fans got all excited.

Herb's fate was sealed when he couldn't beat a young, inexperienced UNC team that had lost just about everyone... Before the season started, you heard all the State fans talking about this was the year they were gonna put it on the boys from Chapel Hill. And they turned around and got swept that year. After that second game, which turned into a rout at the RBC Center, I said to myself, "I don't know if Herb is gonna survive this..."

No, but he didn't endear himself to anyone either. He chose to basically ignore the critics instead of justifying himself. I can respect that, but when your kids are being hassled and your private life is being affected, it can wear on you. I suspect he'd just had enough and rightfully took off.
