    Yeah so far it hasn't been any worse than every other fictional work that's characterized the Catholic Church as a suffocating, 'us-and-only-us' religious group.

    The 1st book is the "least offensive" I think I said that earlier, and even it was dulled for the movie.

    You know what I find offensive? Shit like Rambo, Die Hard, Bad Boys, etc. where violence and body counts lead to cheers. Our culture accepts mindless violence, hell, glorifies it in film and song, yet readily condemns ideas as being dangerous. It's really fucked up.

    yup won the weekend but only with $28mil. and it was against a two week old Disney movie. Needed to pull $50mil. US to be considered profitable.

    This movie and/or book isn't going to convey that to anybody unless they're really looking for it, and looking for an angle at that, at least IMO. Most kids won't even get it.

    I like the Rambo blow em up shit as well as the Golden Compass idea shit so I guess I like the worst of both worlds.

    I enjoy a good action movie, too. We don't seem to have qualms about exposing our kids to violence the way we do with the idea that there might not be a god. I find that very interesting and very American.
