there is no series of experiments one can perform to reveal the supernatural.

i don't know. i really don't know much about the subject per se, but i'd suggest that our ability to run experiments that involve the edge of the universe are probably fraught with difficulties.

but like i said, we don't know everything about gravity, but it's more than just a guess that if i throw a ball into the air, it'll come back down.

Light at the edges of the universe is speeding up. If gravity was the constant that we think it is, it should be slowing down.

So, somehwere we are missing a big piece - which is the whole point.

Haven't we already had this discussion?

err... gravity isn't a constant. at least, the gravity you're talking about (as opposed to the gravity most people are familiar with).

we don't know everything, that's for sure. so do we then say we know nothing? that seems to be the thesis here.

The answer to your question is that it is not necessarily the objects that are moving outward, but the medium of space itself that is expanding. Einstein showed the influence of curved and warped space based on density, not gravity. Gravity is the secondary effect of dense matter. As a result, the energy of expansion is in the medium itself rather than the condensed matter, like particles in an expanding gel.
