Atheism

No reprecussions? Tell that to my daughter who was called an "Atheist Bitch" by several of her "Christian Classmates" because her profile for G&T class didn't list God or Church as one of the 3 most important things in her life. Hell, she isn't even an atheist. Just not a traditional Christian.

Tell that to my son who brings home WWJD braclets as prizes from school.

Tell that to a guy who was told he wasn't going to get a political appointed job unless he joined a mainstream church.

Tell that to everyone one who's been told numerous times they are going to hell by loved ones.

No, there aren't any damned reprecussions for it. It's better to lie and say you are a Christian and just don't go to church instead of telling the truth.

I'm sorry the majority feels so picked on. It must be tough.

 

I have kept it cool until those last couple of posts Sly. The attitude of:

So that's two shots at the athiests along with two "I'm a victim".

No one - aside from Vito who is living it - seems to want to consider the social aspects of how not sharing in the major belief system also involves going against a large majority group. I am seeing this a great deal in this thread. HB didn't even slow down to think that someone who doesn't believe in God might not spend all day dwelling on it.

And folks acting like Mortimer is representative of the athiests while ignoring Vito is a bit disingenuous.

 

It's ok. Some of their best friends are atheists.

Edit: Go ahead anyway. I'd say most of the insults aren't veiled and involve the so-called science - not the religion.

 

Well, considering that the science does require quite a bit of faith, then why treat them differently?

I'm really not trying to derail this thread, but it does seem to me that so many people here are unable to discuss their beliefs without being threatened by what somewhat else believes.

And I would also say that I don't remember many "why atheists are idiots" type threads being started.

I hope that isn't true and I certainly hope it's not because of anything that I posted. You are one of the few people who can discuss different sides from a position of knowledge and acceptance.

So, if what I posted is going to stop that, I'll just shut up and read from now on.
