Crap. First, I hate it for the Middies...

...but on top of that I had grown accustomed to Chan (7-5) Gailey not being an ACC threat (Although they sure beat the shit out of us last year).

Yeah - that does suck for Navy. But at least he has ties to the area.

He might build a powerhouse down there.

    Congrats

Congrats to Avery County NC's own Paul Johnson. Paul built GA Southern into a 1-AA powerhouse in the late 90's. Then goes to Navy and and does the unthinkable by consistently winning at Navy. Paul is a offensive mastermind and a great tudor for young quarterbacks. He will do a great job at Tech.

He's a great coach, but Georgia Southern was dominant in I-AA and the So Con before Johnson. Yeah, he did take them to back-to-back championships, but Georgia Southern was the new bully on the block the first day the entered the Southern Conference, back in what, 91 or 92? They joined a few years before Marshall left, and the two of them took turns beating up on the rest of the conference. I was at Furman in the early 90s when Ga Southern joined the So Con. I learned to hate them about as much as Marshall.

There will definitely be a connection/overflow from Johnson's time at Georgia Southern. He was virtually a god to those in that area, second in their pantheon only to the old bald-eagle himself, Erk Russell.
