It is now. I'd be curious to know when was the last time someone started games 1, 4, and 7 in a series. Obviously some guys will come back on three days rest if the series is in jeopardy, but I can't remember the last time anyone did that back to back. It's just a guess, but I imagine that hasn't happened since the '80s.
In any single game, yeah, but not playing in the next three or four dampens their overall value in a series considerably. Also, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the concept behind DIPS, but it's been shown that pitchers have fairly little control over what happens to a ball in play. They affect whether or not a batter walks, whether or not they strike out, and whether or not they hit a home run; but if a batter puts the ball in play then the hitter and the defense (to a lesser extent) are the ones who determine the outcome.
Sure I can, because he only pitched 58.1 innings. Now obviously most of them were important innings and he had a large positive effect in those innings, but it's still a miniscule amount compared to the number that Hanley Ramirez played.

the latest possible scenario involving the sox and twinkies: Crisp, Lester, Masterson, Lowrie for Santana.

Can't believe the Twins would let themselves be robbed that badly. If that happens, holy fuck.

I'd much rather give up Lester than Ellsbury.

this is picking up some steam. Kinda bizarre. If all these reports of different trade packages/demands are true, it almost looks like the Twins are purposely trying to extract more from the Yankees than they'd settle for from the Sox.

either way, the sox come away with Buccholz and either Lester or Ellsbury intact. I would think the twins would want a pitcher (to replace Santana in the rotation) before a centerfielder, expecially if they can get Crisp.

Apparently the Sox are going to throw in a 5th player - a low level prospect.

I'll believe it when I see it. It seems like there are a million rumors reported as fact this time of year, but I don't put any stock in them until someone at one of the teams confirms it. To me, it just doesn't make sense because that's so obviously inferior to what they already turned down from New York. Plus, with Anaheim out of the Cabrera chase, they have better prospects to offer for Santana than the names in Boston's deal. I have to think the Twins will hold out for Lester and Ellsbury, even if it means giving back someone to get it done.
