Maybe you think a 14 year old should be able to vote?

The fact is there are topics that are over kids heads from sex to religion to politics and there are laws in place that prevent them from being coerced in two of those three topics.

But the debate here is about the other one. The law doesn't have any answers either. (nor should it, IMHO).

I think my kids can handle about any ideas thrown at them in the proper context, including sex, religion and politics, particularly those thrown at them in voluntary entertainment choices. Amazing what happens if parents talk to their kids a bit about stuff like that.

i'm not saying 14 year olds should vote but we all know there are plenty of 18 and overs who haven't the sense they should have been taught when they were kids.

i think kids can watch or read any off color ideals but that does not mean they adopt them as their own.

my 13 year old says the books were great and she didn't read as much into it as all of you are. it is entertainment, plain and simple.

Proper context being the key point. When a kid is in church they should understand the context. When a kid is watching a "kids" movie that happens to contain subliminal/metaphorical messages who is to say they will understand the context.

For the record, I haven't seen the movie and can make no judgement on the existence of any attempts at subliminal persuasion. But to write it off as saying kids are capable of figuring it out for themselves contradicts hundreds of years of established law in this country.

Can anyone tell me why smoking billboards are no longer allowed near schools or why Camel cigarettes are no longer represented by the cartoon camel?

Should kids be able to figure out to not smoke on their own?

Because the government is fucking stupid and bows down to small minded people of all stripes?

And I love how you make an analogy to supposed anti-religious ideas being the eqivalent of smoking. Thinking is a helluva lot more dangerous than smoking.

i'm not saying that. i am saying they SHOULD have parents guiding them to choose the right path. we are not supposed to let society teach morals to our children. (i understand not all parents have a firm hand in the upbringing of their children nor are all parents "good" parents.)

ugh.... whatever, i have decent kids with strong morals already in place. they are allowed to see the movie...do what you want with your own kids when you have them.

I guess it all depends on your perspective doesn't it?

When thought=carcinogen, then yeah, it depends on your perspective.
