I can't figure out why anyone would want cable over directv, ever.

I know someone will give the lame "lose your signal when it rains" line here but that is a myth.

Also, directv just launched a bunch of new HD channels and have more coming. Blows cable away and it sin't even close...plus I get every nfl game in HD, every week. That's enough alone.

High-speed internet. You have to live within 15,000 of a telephone switching station to get DSL. For those out in the country, cable is the only high speed internet available. Yes, I know satellite has some high speed capability, but its only for the downlink. Uplinks have to be made on dial up, which really guts it.

Just for curiousity, I thought the Dish Network had NFL Network, but that DirectTV did not. Does the Sunday DirectTV package (or whatever its name is) include the NFL Network games too?

That's not a myth, you do lose your signal if you have heavy rains or thunder storms, not everytime and not for long periods of time but you do lose it. Don't lie about it.

that's the truth - up here in the mtns when a thunder storm rolls thru w/ thick clouds - tv is gone.

Well for one Cable has a better HD picture. Two I like the fact I can use cable on other TVs in my house without a box. For example the TV in my kitchen under the counter. My TV card in my PC. I wouldn't want to purchase an extra box just for those.

FWIW you can get Cable Road Runner, and have a satellite dish separate. Cable TV isn't a requirement for Cable Internet.

yeah no s**t that isn't a myth...I had Directv for a while and for us it wasn't the monsoon pouring down directly on the house, but instead the tall storm cloud 10 miles down the road (in the direction of the satellite signal) that knocked out the signal for a half-hour. Also I remember one winter we had a cold spell that last maybe 2 or 3 weeks after an ice storm. Problem for me was that I live on the north side of a hill which never allowed the thick ice to completely melt off my dish. My signal looked like scrambled eggs for a couple weeks.
