They never allow for a bad team to get better unless that team signs a huge star. How many magazines had the Lions being good this year? How many had the Packers being good?

completely differant dynamic due to the number of players

NFL teams jump up in a year all the time. How many times has that happened in the NBA much less without major acquisitions.

It is not possible for a team full of young players to improve as the young guys get experience?

I doubt that many sports writers had the Cavs in the finals last year.

That's a relatively amusing sentiment since you were defending Morrison and arguing that he might be a prominent member of a Phoenix-style small lineup when we argued about him back in July. The point is that you can't pretend that Morrison is going to be a big positive when it's convenient and then a nothing when he's injured. I've never thought of him as a good NBA player, but he and May certainly hurt the depth badly.

Sure, but they were 33-49 last year. That's a hell of a lot of improving to do to reach .500, especially considering that the East has improved.
Quite a few did, actually. Do you even follow the NBA? Cleveland had the same record in '06-'07 that they did in '05-'06, and nearly beat the Pistons in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals in '05-'06.

I do not follow the NBA that closely any more. I know football writers never guess the surprise teams correctly though.
