Davis didn't pick Carolina because it's a burgeoning football power or because he wanted a stepping stone to a better job. He picked Carolina because he had his fill of climbing the coaching later and wanted the right place where he could put down roots and coach until he wanted to hang them up. Choosing Chapel Hill was more about picking where he and his wife wanted to spend the rest of their lives than it was about the football team.

OK... Whatever you say....From the link above concerning what he told Buck Ortega about Miami.....

    "
'"I took this job to be my last one. I'm going to stay until I retire. Come here and we'll have a lot of fun.'

I'm sure if he could look an 18 year old recruit in the eye and LIE , a few message board posters should be childs play for him.....

Davis was a lot younger then and still on the rise as a coach. What would be the point of moving again? He's had his NFL shot already.

A guy I know who's a bigwig Texas A&M alum said they're going to target Butch in the offseason for their soon to be open coaching position.

That is an extremely astute statement.

Who knows what he's really going to do? I know he's just like everyone else though. He'll take an opportunity if it comes up. But if one hasn't presented itself, he isn't lying by saying he isn't going anywhere.

More money and ego...which all coaches seem to have. He's as good as gone I think, but it's always interesting until something is official. Comments from people at UNC players saying people in his home town in Arkansas are asking if he's coming back to Arkansas if Butch is hired back there and him saying nothing is finalized YET seems to tell me the players think he may be leaving. I actually hope he doesn't leave as I'd love to see State and Carolina fighting it out for the ACC championship in football every year. I think we may be on the verge of that in basketball!
