What are you looking to do? We bought some insurance through them YEARS ago. Wife's good friend. He didn't know shit, but I did. Bought some term...he wanted us to do whole life and a bunch of other shit.

Do term online. Buy mutual funds through Vanguard.

Most of them are insurance salesmen that call themselves financial planners.

I agree with what Freak says 100%. They will try to sell you stuff you don't need.

All I needed was term insurance and I bought that through them. They called back every quarter or so to try to sell me something else.

Save yourself the hassle and do it yourself or find an independent financial planner.

    Fuck John Hancock as well.

Yeah they don't give a shit about you.

Definitely, no matter what, don't buy any funds from them.

I'm just beginning to get my financial house in order - I've been building a business without much left for investments or insurance. Now I have some to spend and want it in the smartest places.

He told me that NW Mutual's whole life does better (over 20 yrs) than term + invest the difference - I ask to see the proof, he's going to get back to me.

HA! They told me the same shit! That was YEARS ago. You do realize that it's impossible for that to happen?

FYI - His commission on whole life is the entire first year premium.

ALSO - those NW Mutual dividends change. They've been massive over the past 20 years, but they were in the 3-4% range forever.

ALSO - if you have a few bad months, you can't blow off the premium the way you can blow off making an independent mutual fund investment. THIS IS BIG.

My honest advice - cut off relations with him, buy term and invest the difference. And if you don't have kids and a wife that stays at home, life insurance ain't THAT important anyway.

He will not make it easy to cut off the relations. But that's your best move.

I want to find a fee based not commission based financial planner. Know of any firms, etc?
