    He's a big name. Why would top recruits even consider Memphis if he wasn't there? Isn't Memphis considered by some a legit contender for the Nat Championship this year? Dont' think that would happen without Cal there. I agree he hasn't had the cleanest record but if Memphis hadn't given him and his assistants a nice raise, he would be at NC State.

    So all the best basketball players year in year out are smart enough for Duke?

    Even basketball players have to meet certain academic requirements that aren't exactly meaningless for admission to ACC schools . Memphis gets the guys who slept through high school and couldn't possibly get into Duke or Carolina. Hell, even South Carolina has higher standards than someone like Memphis, much to Spurrier's frustration.
