With a 200 million dollar payroll, those are not the most impressive accomplishments. Almost any manager in baseball could have done the same.

Goes to show you can't buy team chemistry.

They made him the richest manager in the league by far for winning them prior World Series, but he hasn't won one in seven years. Expecting them to give him a long-term contract when his teams have consistently failed in recent seasons despite an enormous payroll is unreasonable. It's a good time for both Torre and the team to go in a new direction.

Bobby Cox built both Toronto and Atlanta, winning at least 55% of his games with each. Meanwhile Torre was just a mediocre manager before joining the Yankees with their monstrous payroll. He did well in Atlanta for three seasons in the early 80s, but stunk with the Mets and was just average with St. Louis. Cox has the higher overall winning percentage, and Torre hasn't won a World Series since 2000. There's no question in my mind that Cox is the better manager of the two. I also bet you had no idea that Cox is actually one year younger than Torre, so I wouldn't be surprised if Joe hung them up for good.
Sure, and I usually do, but when someone says something dumb that irritates me, I'm inclined to respond with an insult. I know that it's a fault, but I'm not really motivated to work on that right now.

I thought Cox did a good job this year. Not great, but Atlanta only had 2 pitchers the entire season. Get a 5th starter who can breathe and they would have made the playoffs.

From the occasional polls I see from players Cox is invariably the manager they either rate the best or the one they would like to play for. Maybe they haven't won as many WS as they could have but as a LONG time Brave fan I've enjoyed the ride the last 16 years. Cox has done a great job for the Braves and I hate the thought of him retiring...

It's probably time for Joe to move on but the Yankees did not treat him with much respect despite paying him more than any other manager in baseball. I would take Cox over Torre but it's very close. If Willie Randolph had not already been told he's returning it would be a great story for him to manage the Mets again. Look for Joe to work the World Series with Buck and McCarver on FOX. Although the Yankees spent a fortune, they seldom if ever had a complete team and for that Cashman must take some heat. With AROD likely to move on and Joe gone, it's going to be an interesting winter for the Yankees. Heard a great line tonight, "Every cage is open in the Bronx Zoo" end quote...

I agree with you. Given the talent he had and the results in the end, they should part ways. He made the post season every year which any team would love to say. But with the talent he had they should have had at least 7 championships up to this point.

Despite not winning a playoff series in the last three years, they offered to make him the highest paid manager again in 2008. I think they were more than fair.
He's still under contract with the Yankees until December.

Wrong. Pitching wins championships, and until Cashman and the powers that be finally figured out that they needed to start bringing up young pitchers from the farm, they couldn't win shit with a bunch of old (sucky) fuckers on the mound.
