    This is an invalid comparison. A better comparison would be NFL Football, which has a similar schedule and is insanely popular. I don't see college's regular season being less popular.

    I'm too tired to read the rest of your argument so I'm going to dismiss them :p

    status quo, in most cases a team that loses one game devalues the rest regular season. last year Florida made it in due to USC losing late. many said they didnt belong and then they destroyed OSU. the one loss/season over deal is one of the things I hate most about college football. bring on a playoff system.

    Weird, because I see that as the beauty of the system. With a playoff system, USC's loss to UCLA would have been meaningless. Personally I think USC would have beaten Ohio State as well (or Florida for that matter), but they lost fair and square, so they missed out on their chance.

    It's fine sometimes in the BCS when the final game works out like in 2005, but teams do get screwed (Auburn) and teams like Boise State go 13-0 and pretty much roll through their schedule and then beat Oklahoma and they get a nice consolation prize. They don't even get a shot. I think that's crap. Even if they would be severe underdogs, they won every single game. If you aren't in a BCS conference you have absolutely ZERO chance of winning the national title even if you steamroll through every single team you played. I really hate that half the conferences in D1A don't have even a miniscule chance. Games would still be crucial (I'd start with a 4 team playoff). You could lose 1 game at the most, and a lot of the time you would be battling in the polls for that #4 spot. The #5 team often has one loss going into their bowl so there would still be massive importance on every single game. You could still lose one game and be screwed. If LSU wins out this year they won't be in the title game and with the unbalance in schedules I think we are long overdue for a playoff. I think SF falls by the wayside to Rutgers on Thursday anyway though so LSU will slowly move back into the top 3 with a win over Auburn this week. I think LSU will end up being back at #2, but I think a playoff would be a lot more fun and take out any questions of who should be in the title game like in 2003 when we had a split title.

    If you include a strength of schedule component, I think that a playoff system would actually enhance the regular season, because you could have good losses, as you do in b-ball.

    I'm asking this because I really don't know. How have the D1-AA playoffs worked? Can the same system they used work at the D1 level?

    I share Collin's view about the conferences and bowls not willing to give up their Championships without some guaranteed buyout to compensate for revenue losses.

    I assume if there were a playoff format that conference championships would no longer be needed or played.

    If. South Carolina runs the table (could happen...) and we beat Vandy, Tennessee, Florida, Arkansas, and Clemson...then go to the SEC Championship and beat LSU (assuming they don't lose again).

    Maybe? Maybe? :champagne::champagne:

    (Not getting my hopes up)
