I agree, not sure about that call, UNC didn't need a play like that at that point in the game, they were pretty much doing what they wanted at will.

If the Heels could put together two solid halves they'd be a tough out. First half against Miami was great followed by not so good second half. First half at SC was not so great followed by great second half. Put them together and you have yourselves a bonafide football team.

I didn't see it today, but according to my brother-in-law who did, Spurrier said on his show today that he purposely played conservative in the second half, thinking they had scored enough and didn't want his young players making big mistakes that would let UNC back in the game. Ironically, that's exactly what he did. Not to take away from UNC, especially the defense in the 2nd half.

Heh, you could see Spurrier's disgust in his post-game comments last night. When asked what happened in the second half, first he said "they kicked our butts, that's what happened" and then criticized himself saying "well, we went with all that conservative crap." Spurrier's probably kicking himself, but at the same time, I'm sure being in that locker room was one of the more unpleasant experiences after winning a game.

OTOH, given that this seems to be the year of upsets, UNC just missed the train.

Our OL was atrocious in the second half. Spurrier is going to replace both starting guards...AGAIN.

I'll take the win and #6 AP ranking.

Well I would hope so, after playing that bad and moving up a spot. But a win is a win.

Props to UNC for hanging close--I thought they would get blown out. Maybe SC isn't as good as advertised...

or maybe UNC is better than you thought.

    Look at their schedule:
James Madison - shoulda won and did

ECU - Lost by 3 to an ECU team that was pretty darned good, and had a better output than VT was able to against ECU, and its in Greenville.

Virginia - Who was predicted to suck, buts is doing pretty damned good themselves this year, but only wins by 2.

USF - People didn't know it when they played but USF is now vying for a national title.

Virginia Tech - A 7 point loss IN Blacksburg

    Miami - Win

South Carolina - 7th ranked, but got bitched slapped the whole second half. That means nothing when the win is handed out, but it shows a UNC team that's not bad this year, and is on the cusp of being DAMN good considering how few upper classmen are starting.

Also the UNC recruits that were at the game... some of them South Carolina recruits as well, left seeing UNC as a team on the rise.
