How hard is our playbook to learn anyway. I saw that thing Jake wears on his wrist. It wasn't that complicated. It was something like this.

    1. Flat pass to smith.
    2. Fade to smith.
    3. Slant to smith.
    4. Look at Colbert, throw to smith.
    5. [strikethrough]Throw to tight end[/strikethrough] Go route to Smith
    6. If Smith is covered, throw to Smith.
    7. if 3rd and >8, draw play to Deshaun.

    Scott says | On Testaverde
    • Vinny Testaverde doesn't look like he can move, but he's still got the arm that has enabled him to survive in the NFL for a remarkable 20 years.

    • Then again, the 43-year-old Testaverde was moving better than David Carr out at practice. You should have seen Carr Wednesday -- he was walking as gingerly as an old lady crossing an icy street. Regarding his back injury, Carr said on Monday he felt like his grandfather, today he felt like his father and hopefully on Sunday he will feel like one of his kids.

Carr didn't throw at all in practice and might not Thursday, either, but I fully expect him to start Sunday. If he played with it last week, in the midst of brutal back pain, Carr will try it this week. But can he go 60 minutes? What's going to happen when he gets hit? And with this offensive line, he's going to get hit.

    • Testaverde has some gray around the temples but he's obviously in good shape. Based on the Panthers' limited options at this point, this was a good short-term move. He'll be around for the rest of the season - acting as his own agent, he signed a one-year contract. He was delayed getting in from New York Tuesday, had to fly in Wednesday morning and basically was rushing to make it to Wednesday practice. To see Testaverde out there in his old No.16 was weird -- it felt a little like seeing Reggie White in a Panthers uniform many years ago. Just one of those things you would never think would happen.

    • Baby boomers everywhere must be rejoicing because Testaverde signed. I know I am. It's the first time in years the Panthers have had a player older than me on the roster.

    • Jake Delhomme said Wednesday he has been told by doctors to expect a 7-9 month rehabilitation after he gets Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. Delhomme said he will stay around the team all season and plans on "being a cheerleader" for the team. He will do all his rehab at Bank of America stadium. The surgery is tentatively scheduled for Oct.18. Delhomme had never met Testaverde before Wednesday and said he looks forward to picking the veteran QB's brain, too.

    • As for Matt Moore, that 43-yard pass he completed on his first-ever NFL throw will be his only completion for awhile. The Panthers would need both Carr and Testaverde to get hurt in the same game to go to Moore. Then again, in this crazy season, it might happen.
