    • Carr has worked with Steve Smith as the starter for two weeks. Jake had four years with Smith, three with Colbert, and two with Carter. Rapports will develop.
    • The guy played pretty well against New Orleans except for one pass. He threw the ball away when he should have, he delivered the ball accurately both short and long, and his numbers were reasonable considering how little we threw it. They would have looked even better without one 20 yard gain being called back by holding, another 20 or so yarder dropped by Steve, and a potential touchdown disrupted by illegal contact. He doesn't suck.
    • He's the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers now, so act like fans and get behind him. Or at least wait until he actually costs us a game or two before you lynch him. Right now we have much bigger problems to worry about than the guy behind center.

Not that im on the Carr sucks bandwagon or anything but Jake found a rapport with Smitty early when he took over in 2003. Yes, they played together for about 3 years (we lost Smitty for a whole year) but they found a rapport quickly. Yes, Carr should be given more that 2 games but it seems that Colbert appears to be a favorite go-to guy of the backups. Thats a bit concerning even tho its nice to see Colbert off the scrap heap this year.

It should also be noted that it was the Panther D that gave Carr a get out of jail free card for almost blowing that NO game. Yes he had a very nice drive previous to that but that was a horrible decision that should have cost us the game.

And for what its worth I'll always be behind the Panthers starting QB, whomever that may be.

I know it has come out in the news reports about how Smith will change up a play when he sees something, and that Jake had a better feel for Smith with that regards. But that brings up several questions for me:

How often is Smith doing this?

Are the other receivers doing this?

What does 'rapport' specifically make a difference? I suspect it somewhat makes a difference with where the receiver likes to have the ball thrown, the receiver knowing how a QB throws the ball, etc. But doesn't the coverage often affect where the window is to throw the ball to the receiver anyhow? I'm not saying that rapport between receivers and QBs is not important, but I suspect rapport between linemen is much more important.

He played an okay game against New Orleans. He still has the pocket presence of a squirrel on the freeway. I know it is only two games, but I can see why Carr was released by Houston and why he will never live up to his high draft pick status. I hope they can develop a game plan that will suit Carr and limit his mistakes, but I am not optimistic that Carr will be anything other then a backup quarterback.

Carr is an average QB, now with a bad back. I would not expect very good play this week. After him we have one fresh out of the womb and one rickety old bastard. What's a coach to do? I'd probably let Carr rest and see what the rookie has. It would be a good learning experience if nothing else. If he screws up, play Vinnie. Who knows maybe Vinnie will be up to speed in time.

The offense was clicking fairly well while Jake was playing. Since Carr came in it has sputtered. Until he changes that it is going to be a long season.
