One thing is for sure - the job - even for the long haul - is David Carr's to take. If Carr improves, plays like he never has in the NFL, and makes a playoff run or two, he's our new QB even when Jake is healthy.

Good thing we have him for 2 years, and good thing the pressure is on him to prove the doubters wrong.

Nutty how things worked out for Carr. All the preseason talk about how he was a threat to Jake - none of which I believed - and now, other than Delhomme's own health - Carr is a threat, and he has a bonafide opportunity to earn a big contract, here or elsewhere.

I'd have to say if Carr doesn't flat out win ball games, we won't win b/c we have so many issues. I also think that if he DOES win them, he's our new QB.

    So - that's something new.

Carr would have to really play well to take Jake's job from him. Of course we have no idea if Jake will ever play again at this point.

Our offense was starting to look good until Jake went down. It has regressed since then. Carr needs to first and foremost find Smith early and often. The only superstar on this team is Smith and we can not afford to let him be taken away.

Carr makes the reads and has the option to throw to Smith or Colbert or whomever.

True but being the number one overall pick in the draft is about as good of an opportunity as one is ever going to see.

Considering his career didn't start off great, this is his second chance. Not too many get a second chance.

I think Carr doesn't lock-in to Smith like Delhomme has learned to do. Carr makes reads, sometimes taking too long to make those reads, and makes generally sound decisions. He led the NFL in completion percentage last season, which indicates that he finds open receivers and makes good throws. The problem is that he sometimes holds onto the ball too long trying to maximize each play. I haven't seen him force any throws the last two weeks to guys double or triple covered.

I've got a lot of hope in Carr. I think he'll be decent.

He certainly has all the physical tools you could ever want in a QB. No way he gets to be the number one pick unless he has all that you can scout looking great. It is mental with him but I am not sure he can overcome it. I guess there have been guys who start off slow and then something clicks for them and I guess we have to hope for that kind of thing.

I just hope he is up to speed on the WHOLE play book by now. And his back is OK.
