I have a couple of friends thinking about it too. They haven't made the jump yet.

It is weight loss surgery. It is less invasive than the traditional type though. They do not actually cut your stomach or intestines. What they do is insert a band around the top of your stomach that basically causes a bottleneck so you feel full sooner. The band can be adjusted to make it tighter or looser with saline injections. You have none of the malabsorbtion issues associated with a gastric bypass.

I am not sure I will qualify for it. I am not quite far enough over weight. If I do qualify though my insurance will pay for it.

    Here's a novel idea...

Quit eating as much and exercise.

    I've lost 50 lbs in 5 months.

Of course, given your stories about your financial situation, it is obvious you have no self control.

I have lost weight in the past several times. I lost 58 pounds one time on weight watchers. What is the point though it is all going to come back as soon as I stop dieting.

My financial situation is under control now. I sold my house and moved to something cheaper and I can now make progress on paying off my bills.

The problem is you aren't changing your lifestyle permanently which is why all diets fail.

You must life your life in permanent caloric deficit or stasis.

You can't do that without exercise which is what most of the crash diets neglect.

I lost some weight one time by going to the gym three times per week and working out for over an hour each time. I dropped twenty pounds or so and was in better shape but as soon as I stopped going the weight came back. It is almost impossible for me to get to the gym now with two small kids to take care of.

Ever heard of a jog stoller? They make them with two seats.

I see parents jogging around Freedom Park with their kids following on trikes.

You can take the easy way and likely lose weight but the reality is, you will still be unhealthy

If I lose 60 pounds I will not be as unhealthy as I was. I agree with you though that just losing weight with this surgery will not mean I am "in shape". It is a lot easier to exercise and get in shape when you are not carrying around all that weight though. I used to be a lot more active when I was thinner.
