Would these mutations, which seemingly happen significantly enough in single cell organisms to cause our drug targets to fail from year to year, create significant alterations in the organism itself given, oh I don't know,...something small, lets say a thousand years?

If you begin an airplane journey from Antarctica, traveling north at 400mph, heading directly for NYC, yet your plane mysteriously deviated from its path by simply a single degree or two (and only a SINGLE deviation, a one-time event), where do you think you would end up when the allotted time you planned for your trip expired? And what if there was a religious race of people on the island you crash landed on who would tell you that you never could have ended up there coming from Antarctica? "It just doesn't make any sense" they would say, "not from the direction you were traveling from." What would you tell them?
