I agree that Solo throwing her coach and Scurry under the bus was bush league, but your defending the decision as if it didn't impact the game is a little ridiculous. I don't know how much you watch soccer, but it's very much like pulling a QB. I don't understand how you can say 'don't give me chemistry when it's a goalie we're talking about.'

That's stupid. The goalie is the one who places defenders on a goal kick, you know, the way Brazil scored their first goal? It comes down to very poor communication, likely caused by, you know, the new goalie. Then count in the players who were upset that Solo got benched, and it's easy to see why the US got run.

Soccer is a sport very much decided on momentum. You can't look at the result and assume a 2-0 victory for Brazil based on the goalie. If Solo had helped stop the first goal, the whole game very well might have changed. I can't say the US would have won with Solo, but by the same token you can't say they would have lost.

im not throwing Scurry under the bus here. she did was she was told to do. but the head coach made the decision to switch goalies right before a semi-final game on a team that was rolling. it was a huge gamble imo. if it woulda worked, he'd be justified but it did not and now he has to fend off the questions as well as deal with his team. he did upset the team chemistry. i realize that its his call to make and we all have the benifit of employing 20/20 hindsight. thats what we do out here in bloggerville.......and sports talk radio.........and the print media........the water cooler........

Solo should have played. There was no reason for replacing her. That coach needs to be fired.

DJ, I ask again, did you see the first goal? If Solo can stop a headed ball from one of her teammates at point blank range, then fine. I stand corrected. It's not like Scurry had never played in a WC game before, so her ability to place defenders and the like shouldn't be in question.

Also, if Team USA's players are so fragile they can't play without Solo, then they should have said something to their coach before the game. And if the players held such dislike for Scurry, then Scurry shouldn't have been on the team.

And yes, Playa, it's womens soccer that people are hyper about. To me it's actually kinda funny-almost Nacny Kerrigan-Tonya Harding like.

Why the hell did the coach change goalkeepers in the first place? A hunch? That's not a good answer.

The first goal was absolutely Scurry's fault. She should have called the defender off and taken the ball. Watch the video again and you will see she hesitates and then just freezes when she realizes that she is in no man's land. The bottom line is that the defender never should have even had to have the chance to touch the ball. Indecisive keepers suck balls.

The second goal, she got a touch on but was slow to the ground and out of position. There was no way that the shot could have gone far post, so she should have been closer to the near post. The 3rd, I couldn't really tell if she was at fault because the angle was pretty bad. The 4th looked like a pretty nice indiviual effort, but by that point the US was probably gassed from being a man down and trying to chase the match.

Even if she had stopped every shot, could she have scored a goal? Cause with the complete lack of offense, she would have had to have done so to make a difference in the final outcome.

Brazil was just better. Playing Solo might have made the score a little more respectalbe, but it would have still been a loss. If she's the second coming of soccer Jesus like some of you guys are painting her out to be she knew that when she made her comments, which is why it was nothing more than pointless whining.

The US could have advanced without scoring a goal.

It's just as likely Solo would have scored a goal as she would have stopped every shot.
