"Though U.S. coach Greg Ryan didn't blame the loss on Scurry, Solo questioned the decision and Scurry's performance."
"It was the wrong decision, and I think anybody that knows anything about the game knows that," she said. "There's no doubt in my mind I would have made those saves. And the fact of the matter is it's not 2004 anymore. ... It's 2007, and I think you have to live in the present. And you can't live by big names. You can't live in the past. It doesn't matter what somebody did in an Olympic gold medal game in the Olympics three years ago. Now is what matters, and that's what I think."

Anybody else think Greg Ryan is a stupid fuck? You go girl!!!!

If Solo can stop an own goal, then she should have played. The 2nd goal she may have prevented, the 3rd no chance for anyone, the 4th, maybe she stops.

Considering the US did virtually NOTHING offensively, they were gonna lose that game.

She should shut here cake hole, considering there was NO WAY even the great Hope Solo was gonna stop a goal headed in by her own player--especially when it comes on a corner.

I understand why she was steamed that she didn't play, and she has a point on living in the past (Scurry is like 35 now? The Tony Meola of women's soccer), but in reality she would have POSSIBLY fared 2 goals better...at best.

In soccer it's not that simple. Solo likely had greater communication with her defenders that she had been playing with all tournament. All that was needed in that situation was a couple of words letting the player know that the goalie had the ball. There were no words, the player made an attempt to help, and it worked out poorly.

Solo could have potentially altered that play. However, like you said, the US would have still lost with their anemic offensive effort. Starting off with an own-goal like they did though is a terrible moral boost.

What a stupid call by the coach.

actually, it is that simple. Scurry has been around this team as long as Solo has. Solo is spouting off because she didn't get to play in the biggest match of her career to date. It screams of sour grapes. Coaches play hunches. Somthimes those hunches are wrong. Should Solo have played? Probably. Would it have mattered? Most likely not.

wtf solarte? how can you trash her and not the stupid coach? Solo had given up a total of ZERO goals throughout the cup games. No way in hell a coach should make that call.

That will make one of those ESPN top five stupid calls by a coach show.

well, again, he went with a hunch, and it didn't turn out right. Was it a mistake? Maybe, considering 2 of the 4 goals were, IMO unstoppable. Solo has every right to be upset--as I said, I understand why she is angry. Still, if Scurry blanks Brazil, the coach looks like a genius. Solo didn't play her way off the field, but the decision was made.

To me, it seemed she was mad because she didn't get to play in the biggest game of her career.

the coach fucked up and he knows it. but he wont admit it openly. it would be an indictment on Scurry. he upset the team chemistry. his hunch was dead wrong. Solo has a right to be pissed. she earned the right to play with her team in this most important game. they were rolling. terrible call.

did you guys even watch the game? The American players in front of the keeper were junk, and then they got crushed when Boxx caught her 2nd yellow card on a crap call. They had to play short. Their "roll" was left behind, and they got dusted by a better Brazil team. Scurry should have stopped 2 of the 4 goals. The other 2, no one is stopping.

Don't give me chemistry when it's a goalie we're talking about. Please.

Solo being mad is one thing. Throwing Scurry and the coach under the bus afterwards was a bit much.
