And I'll admit that the average SC fan doesn't give a shit about our basketball team unless we're having a good season. It was stupid to build a big ass arena for Gamecock basketball.

was the Colonial Center built just for the gamecocks? seems to me its more like Columbia's arena than USC's. they use it for all kinds of events.

as far as fan support, the football fans definitely show up, but I will say not as hardcore as I expected. I went to the USC-Auburn game last year. #2 team in the counrty and espn night game. In the 3rd/4th quarter with a tight game, it started to drizzle a little and I couldnt believe the amount of people that got up and left and did not return. Ive also driven by on gameday and seen lots of empty seats, especially if they are losing. the tailgating scene is always supported though.

I was at the Auburn game. Didn't notice anyone leaving. Usually when there is a blowout...either way...people leave. They do the same at Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Bama...anywhere. Still...there will be 70,000 people there. Hell, we're increasing capacity to 91,000.

The arena was built with money from both USC and the city/county. The old coliseum had concerts, circus, etc...It just seems strange that they ANYONE thought there was a need for an arena THAT big in Columbia. What does the Dean Dome hold? Pretty sure the Colonial Center is bigger. That's absurd.

Dean Dome is something near 22K. The Colonial is listed at 18K

Still...18K is ridiculous for our BB team. Hell, that's the size of the Bobcats arena.
