They held Larry Johnson to 43 yards. I said before the game that they weren't much as pass rushers but pretty solid against the run, yet I was still surprised at how solid. They were physical and played good assignment defense.

    homer:
In addition to the holding, I still think there should have been some chop block calls. Sometimes Peppers looked like he was engaged with the tackle right before being cut. In any case, we need to think of something that can save him from being cut every pass play. Perhaps this should have been one of those weeks where we moved him around more often.

They tackled everything except Steve Smith. It was some of the best team defense I've seen in a while.

I figured their success against LJ had more to do with KC's line, and I think our line played at about that level.

they do have a lot better line play than I figured. They're still underpowered at LB, but I guess Greenwood does enough to help out, undoubtedly Ryans is their best player.

They should have good lineplay. They have three top 16 picks.

Plus Anthony Weaver is one of the better run stopping DEs in the league and even pretty solid as a DT. They have some athletic beef up front, although they'll have trouble with better passing teams like the Colts.

Now i know why Morgan made those comments about Ahman Green. He got abused and abused. It was really sad to watch.

And once again, this front seven being labelled as special needs to stop. Peppers is special, leave it at that.

I so want to give Colbert the chance to redeem himself but with an effort like that id rather just see Jarrett out there. I think i counted 4 drops and 1 personal foul.

Why oh Why after 11 years can we still not cover a fuckering TE. Its like we dont even want to try.

My hats off to the Texans tho, great gameplan. Utilised what they had and didnt lower their heads falling down a quick 14 and their D was swarming. Schaub looks like a real cool customer. Atlanta fucked up bigtime letting him go.

On TV the announcer made a comment about Carolina spotting something funny in the Texans return setup so did the short kick. It obviously didnt work. But it was the terrible coverage afterwards of their only legitimate deep threat that baffled me. I guess they could say the same about us and Smitty i guess.

I feel sorry for Smitty sometimes. Thats two times he has put forth incredible effort with 3TD's in a game and we lost, remember Miami.

this is about as sick as i've felt in a long time after a game. maybe the first time i have been pissed at Fox (for punting with less than a quarter left in the game, down 19 points and facing a 3rd and 1 near mid-field). and i'm sick of our apparently inability to come up with good draft picks, Beason being the exception.

i didn't read thru most of the treads so forgive me if this is a regurgitation of things that have already been ranted about.

colbert sucks. beside the obvious drops, on the underthrow by Jake he did not make any effort to adjust to the ball and catch it close to his body to prevent it from getting stripped. i'm pretty sure on the Goings fumbled he made no effort to get to the ball or keep the Houston players from getting to it but simply followed the Houston players. that alone should be reason to bench him. the guy has no heart, is a fucking loser and is scared to death when he is on the field. maybe he could be an allstar in some city flag football league but he has no business suiting up in a NFL uniform.

foster sucks and i dunno why in the fuck we haven't found better. williams isn't the answer though I think he could be a decent changeup/third-down back (though i question our using a first-round pick on him). we need a power back that can move the pile and pick up short-yardage. our running game isn't any better despite the change in blocking scheme and a healthy line. there's no excuse for it or for allowing Foster to continue fumbling balls. if he can't hold on the fucking ball then sit his ass.

kalil sucks. maybe he'll improve but he got abused and i think was the main reason for our poor pass protection. (the Texans play on D like we did when we had Del Rio). honestly, i don't remember Mathis being as bad as this kid. at the moment i'm beginning to feel that they are trying to cover for another weakass draft.

    our D has no passion.

i don't understand how we leave a. johnson so fucking alone over the middle of the field or having Morgan cover him. is it the safeties or is that Trog's defense plan/system sucks? i dunno. maybe someone who tapes the games and understands defenses can explain how it is that we allow a team to make a living passing over the middle of the field all fucking game long.

Collin, please help me out with your explanation of why we can't fucking keep a corner on their best pass receiver. if they move can't we adjust to keep a corner on him or do we have to accept having to cover him with Morgan. if so, how is it that Houston can adjust to keeping their best corner on Smitty after he abuses the other corner a few times?

from what I see of the talent there is no reason why we shouldn't have a very good D and at least make a team like the Texans struggle a bit on offense. if the the safeties are to blame for this much of a falloff then Hurney, Fox and Trog should all be fired for not getting better in the offseason. personally, i'm having a hard time pinning it all on the safeties. i'm more inclined to think it our DC. we have seen our D start out slow in seasons past and then come on. maybe there's hope but I'm really getting tired of this shit at the beginning of a season. I think Richardson is too.

we cannot win games consistently if all we have on O is Smitty. I liked some of the things I see Davidson doing but he has to fix some things in a hurry. maybe Bridges will help. i was not a fan of his last year but Kalil is a fucking hole.

at this moment, i'm ready for cowher, which is something i never dreamed i'd be saying. but things are seriously fucked up and i'm ready for some heads to start rolling.

otherwise, it was indeed a fine day for a football game and life in general is grand.

I'm beginning to agree with the idea of a head or two rolling. Why Crossmans head is still intact I will never know. However, not only do i think Fox won't be one of them I think Cowher would never consider Carolina (from most accounts).
We need more time before any major executions should be discussed and maybe in a week or two the train will get on track.
If not, and it's another 7-9 (or 8-8) season then I would have to agree that some major changes need to be seriously considered. So far I'm not impressed with "the big changes".

They didn't, for the most part. You can flip your corners to have them match-up with opposing receivers instead of always being on the left side or right side of the defense, but Robinson didn't just follow Smith around after the snap. And the play you're talking about with Morgan, the only time you'd really play man around the goalline is if you're blitzing out of a zero cover. Morgan should have gotten a deeper drop, but I'd expect the safeties to read and help as well. It was just a nice play by Houston.
