see, that's the odd thing. I'm concerned with how he's playing not whether I'm winning something I took a stand on. Which is why you always have a problem with this "opinion" thing.

nope. I know hasbeens said what he said with sincerity. I also know HB isn't out to score points, put someone down, or try to force them into mistakes. HB knows I said what I meant, and that I didn't make a mistake saying it.

prove it wrong. Show me how many plays we put Davis outside Peppers in base defense. You and I both know he won't be out there, and that Peppers almost always has contain, so I don't know why you're being stubborn about this, or about my opinion. But sure, tell me it's my fault.
you posted how many tackles he had. That's not evidence. I asked for a couple plays - not unreasonable. Not screenshots, just a couple plays. I can recall plays from the Giants game without going back to the tape that I specifically remembered things, it's not unreasonable to recall anything at all about something you're this vehemently against.

Really? Because it looks to me like we're the ones concerned with how he's playing whereas your comments don't have anything to do with how he's playing, suggesting that perhaps there is some other motivation behind them.
Prove it right. I can't imagine why they'd use him during the preseason in a way they would have no intention of ever using him during the regular season. Does that make sense to you?
Of course it's evidence. Since when are statistics not evidence? It would be fine for you to argue that his lack of tackles is not compelling enough to suggest that he's being blown off the line, but it's certainly enough to show that he has not been active this preseason, despite your claim to the contrary.
I'm not vehement about any of this. I'm not saying "Oh my God, Davis is horrible!" I and everyone else who is commenting about this except you is saying, "Gee, why isn't Davis making more plays? He seems pretty invisible this preseason." But for the record, I do recall a Patriots lineman pushing #58 by the screen on a running play, which if I remember correctly, was the impetus for the discussion in chat. I have no idea what the specific clock time was, however, as I didn't take notes.

There aren't any other motivations behind HB's, and I said that. To me, I see a couple of people disagreeing with something I observed from a completely different angle than they did, and one person had issue with it.
how much 3-4 do we plan on using this year? How much have we used in years past? We used plenty against Pittsburgh.

How many times can you honestly remember someone being lined up outside Julius Peppers? I'll pull your trick. No one who bothers watching the game can say it's been often.

it's not evidence of where he's been lining up, it's not evidence of him being blown off the ball, it's evidence of how many tackles he had. You have to believe there's a direct correlation and no other variables. Or at least make enough knowns available, like how many snaps Davis played.

interesting, and I'll take a look. Not a running play, but close enough. The thing is, unlike you, I'm not dismissing and writing off your comments. I'm open to see whatever.

It's about time. They've been way too civil. Now we just need one to call the other fat, and the floodgates will open completely.

I didn't say that it was. I said it was evidence that he has not been active.

And not "a screen," I meant the TV screen.

So after watching a brisk quarter, I didn't see Davis get blocked well from the eagled SLB until 5:03 1st Q. Saw two instances, early, where he got driven by a TE, which I don't like to see, but one was on contain and the other was playing out on a split TE in space. Neither are especially encouraging,

5:03 1st Q, they ran a belly play up the middle. Against 77, Davis absorbed contact, wasn't driven, and slid off the block to take on the back at the same yard marker as the point of the block. I'm not going to call that a huge win, to meet a guard in the hole 3 yards deep and make a tackle, but it's not a huge loss either. The play after that, Davis moves down to contain OLB and holds his ground v/s the TE, almost making the tackle at the LOS.

That's what I saw after 8 runs that drive and a handful the drive before. That's not something I'm concerned about. Like I said, I don't expect there to be 20 plays this season that Julius Peppers won't have the contain to that side. I don't expect to see Davis in contain anymore than I do the one around the 7 minute mark where Davis lines up at DT and drops to SS, or the 3-4 where he's ROLB.

To this point, I still see what I saw overall. Not necessarily decisive, dodging blocks occasionally, and certainly not knifing into formation to make a big play, but certainly running around and not being knocked on his ass.

Also, FWIW, Ryan Kalil blocks really well in space, which was what he did a lot of against the Pats since he was uncovered at G.

And you continue to be the only one who sees it that way.
