what are there like 5 japanese games out there for the xbox?

i'm sure it's because they hate the big western consoles and not because those games appeal to them.

and i was actually not just talking about ps3 sales in japan, i was talking about in general. ps2 was very successful and you'd think some brand loyalty (and compatibility) would mean the ps3 would sell well. it was sony's game to lose and they seem to be losing it atm.

No, there are lots. You really don't know what you're talking about on this one and should stop arguing because of that, but of course you won't because you have a compulsion to argue everything to the death no matter if you're wrong or not.
It is. As I said, companies and the media have looked into that question specifically and the overwhelming response was that they prefer Japanese brands. Microsoft is far from the only Western company to run into this problem.
Japan is where Sony's launches have typically made their hay, so that's why Japanese reluctance this time around is significant. The PS3 is doing ok in the U.S. for the pricepoint, and from what I understand, better in Europe than the PS2 did at launch. One obvious problem is that Sony's other departments have a huge stake in getting the market to adopt Blu-ray, meaning the PS3 was saddled with additional unnecessary cost. Offering Blu-ray and conventional DVD models would have resulted in vastly higher sales, but Sony needs Blu-ray to win out over HD-DVD more than they need the PS3 to maintain the PS2's dominance.

    name them.

and we know that the media and the analysts are always right.

maybe you could point to some articles that describe how microsoft has produced japanese games for the japanese market, but nobody buys them because they don't like western products.

"In a news conference in Tokyo on April 6 (2006), Takashi Sensui, the new general manager of the Japanese Xbox division, announced that 15 more games would be added to the Japanese lineup by summer, bringing the total to 40 – a number that is expected to double by the end of the year. Also announced was the “Blue Limited Edition” Xbox 360 model themed after the FIFA World Cup, of which Xbox 360 is the official games console. A special blue faceplate included in this model matches Japan’s national soccer team’s color. Other Japanese-exclusive content includes an online “Mobile Suit Gundam” game from Namco/Bandai, SquareEnix’ exclusive “Project Sylph,” a secret RPG developed by TriAce, downloadable anime episodes through Xbox Live Marketplace, and the upcoming RPGs “Lost Odyssey” and “Blue Dragon.”"

So the 360 already had 40 games in the Japanese lineup by last summer, and I presume that the number has gone up substantially since then. Microsoft went after many popular franchises, getting both ports and exclusives from Capcom, Konami, Namco, Tecmo, and Square-Enix, etc. Is that enough evidence for you to admit that you're wrong or will you continue to babble on like I expect you to?
Dude, even the U.N. has issued reports condemning the amount of racism in Japan. You would have to be absolutely clueless about that country to not be aware of it, but perhaps you are. That's never stopped you from running your mouth before.
    http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=10077

By all means, continue to wrongly argue something you clearly know nothing about. As I said, that's never stopped you before. And by the way, this is exactly the kind of thing I meant when I pointed out that you have an inability to stop yourself from arguing subjects. even when you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

you do realize there's a difference between a japanese game and a game sold in japan, right?

"blue dragon" literally JUST came out (aug 28) and "lost oddyssey" is still in development. "mobile suit gundam" has become "mobile ops: one year war" which seems to have been delayed until oct 2007.

the fact is the xbox 360 doesn't have many japanese games. maybe they're working on them. maybe they'll have some later. but you can't expect people to buy a console today so they can play a game some time later.

bfd. i'm not claiming japanese are or aren't racist bastards, just that the evidence you're presenting is bogus.

if a black wedding dj kept playing hiphop tunes for potential clients and found that older white people tended to not hire him, is that evidence that older white people are racist? no, it's evidence that he's not catering to the people he wants to get work from.

now as it stands, japan is not a major marketplace in the scheme of things so ms is only going to go so far to make a showing there. in fact, with ps3's not doing very well either, i suspect they're considering japan as mission accomplished in a certain regard.

    from your own article:

"It will be interesting to see if the unveiling of multiple new Japanese games later this month will have any effect on consumer interest in the Xbox 360. The lack of local software was often cited as the key reason that the original Xbox failed in the region - selling only 460,000 units over its lifespan to date - but some commentators have suggested that there is also a basic unwillingness among Japanese consumers to invest in a console produced overseas."

clearly you belong to the later group and i belong to the former.

also, interesting from that article is the breakdown of the type of games they are interested in. cross reference that with the games actually out for the xbox 360 in japan and you'll find that you've generally got shoot-em-ups and fighting games.

Like I said, I didn't think you would shut up even though I provided evidence that you are once again clueless. I don't even mean this as an insult but really more of an observation, but you obviously have serious mental issues. Clearly I have problems with anger and conflict resolution, but you have issues with compulsively arguing subjects regardless of the facts or your own ignorance of a subject.

Yes, and the lineup total didn't include Western titles available in Japan because that number is much higher.
That is a lie, and what's worse is that you're lying even though I just provided proof to show that it's wrong. There were already at least 40 by last summer, and presumably many more by now. Do you acknowledge the fact that Microsoft has had games produced by Capcom, Konami, Namco, Tecmo, and Square-Enix for the 360? Those are popular Japanese companies and produce Japanese games. They still have not resulted in significant sales for the 360 in Japan.
That's exactly what you're claiming, and my evidence undeniably proves you wrong. There have been Japanese games on that console for some time now, and yet the Japanese continue not to buy it because the system itself is not Japanese.
Here again you blatantly lie about things you have no clue about. Anyone who follows gaming news even casually knows how long and how hard Microsoft has attempted to penetrate the Japanese market. As I noted above, they secured exclusives and ports from nearly every major Japanese game publisher, and they have spent hundreds of millions marketing to that region. It has all failed despite their best attempts and enormous investments of money and resources.
It's an excuse, nothing more. The Japanese have always insisted that they aren't racist, and given bullshit excuses for their behavior. The 360 has featured numerous Japanese titles, has been backed by huge amounts of marketing, and yet has achieved absolutely nothing in Japan. It is obvious that the Japanese simply will not accept it as a console regardless of what they do, just as it's obvious that you don't have the first clue what you're talking about and will argue anything because you have mental problems that cause you to do so regardless of the facts.

    So again:
    • More than 40 specifically Japanese titles over a year ago (that number did not include Blue Dragon or the other later titles).
    • Microsoft has spent massive amounts of money marketing the 360 to Japan.
    • There are JRPGs, traditional RPGs, fighting games, and many other genres that have done well in Japan on other consoles.
    • The PS3 is mostly shooters as well, but has sold regardless.
    • Japan is well known as one of the most racist markets on earth.
    • You have a serious mental problem that prevents you from ever letting an argument go, no matter how obviously clueless you are.
Really, S_Nut, you need professional help.

i'm providing plenty of facts, you're providing press releases.

you think so? you have any "facts" to back this up?

seriously, for a guy who keeps telling me i don't know the subject, you have a pretty weak grasp on it.

here's a list of those developers games for the xbox 360:
namco: ridge racer 6, zegapain xor, zegapain not, super robot wars, love football
    capcom: dead rising, lost planet(non-exclusive)
konami: bomberman: act zero, dance dance revolution (marginally exclusive), pro baseball spirits, pro evolution soccer 6 (non-exclusive), rumble roses xx, pro evolution soccer 2007 (non-exclusive)
    square: final fantasy xi (non-exclusive)
tecmo: dead or alive, dead or alive xtreme 2

i don't deny those are japanese publishers, but i would hesitate to call them all "japanese" games. there's 1 rpg in that list and it's a port of a game that came out ages ago.

xbox 360 launched in japan with 20 announced titles and six actually available. by april of 2006, they'd added another 20 titles which they expected to be out by the 1 year anniversary of the xbox 360 in japan. provide some facts to the contrary.

where did i say japanese weren't racist?

do you understand the what is meant by "in the scheme of things"? the japanese market is 20% of the global marketplace. would you prefer to write a game you could sell to 1 person or a game you could sell to 4 people? i think as long as sony's box is not doing well in japan (being outsold 4 to 1 by the wii) ms probably isn't too concerned with the numbers given that the xbox is doing so well elsewhere. if the ps3 can't make it in japan and can't make it out of japan, it's toast.

who told you there were 40 specifically japanese titles available for the xbox 360 over a year ago?
ps3 is compatible with like 98% of the ps2 game library. don't forget that when considering what games are available for the ps3.

Until that last post where you listed some titles that refuted your own position, you hadn't provided any facts at all.
The same site I linked for the 40 Japanese titles also noted that there were over 100 titles overall.
You have been proven wrong repeatedly, you haven't shown a single fact that supports your own position, you haven't given any links, and you are disputing common knowledge about the Japanese market.
Thanks for proving my point. It's pretty awesome that you would prove yourself wrong about there being no more than 5 Japanese games on the 360, and then continue to argue.
You have repeatedly insisted that they aren't avoiding the 360 because it's an American console.
20% of the entire globe is not a significant market? I guess you fit the liberal stereotype of being completely hopeless when it comes to business.
I already gave you the link in this thread. Have you started drinking or otherwise consuming chemicals that prevent you from remembering events more than 15 seconds old?
And most Xbox games are compatible with the 360. The PS2 library is obviously a lot bigger, but considering that PS2 sales are still strong in Japan, Japanese people clearly aren't buying the PS3 to play PS2 games. And again, the PS3 is nearly bereft of RPGs.

It is absolutely beyond any shadow of any doubt that the Japanese are biased against an American console. For whatever reason, you have chosen to once again be a dick and argue something you know absolutely nothing about, and to continue arguing it to death despite numerous facts (including one set that you provided) and links proving you wrong.

You're still on ignore, by the way, but I got sucked into this argument because I stupidly clicked on your first response to see what you had to say. I also stupidly chose to correct you despite knowing that you're incapable of admitting that you are wrong about anything, but now that the facts have proven you undeniably clueless, hopefully I will be able to resist the urge of continuing to feed your psychosis.

you'll have to be more specific. you seem to be under the impression that a game being available for the us market automatically makes it available for the japanese market.

i'm actually disputing your claim that the xbox 360 has a slew of games that should appeal to the japanese marketplace. i'm not addressing anything about the japanese themselves.

i don't consider a game being published by a japanese company to make it "japanese" in the sense we are discussing here (catering to japanese tastes). japanese publishers would prefer to cater to the 80% of the market as well so they make games with broader appeal.

so when i estimated the number of japanes games for the xbox as being 5, i was wrong. but we're still nowhere near the 40 you claim even counting games that came out in the last year. you're taking press releases talking about future game development and saying it's concrete fact.

no, i've repeatedly insisted that the xbox 360 doesn't provide a compelling purchase for a japanese consumer based on the product itself.

tell you what, you spend your time catering to 20% of the market and i'll concentrate on the other 80% and we'll see who comes out ahead.

perhaps you can quote me in your link where it's explained that of the over 100 xbox titles available in japan last year, than 40 of them were designed for the japanese market.

the original xbox suffered from the same problem as the 360 -- not enough games. being compatible with the xbox in japan isn't a huge selling point.

the ps3 is bereft of games in general, but you can still play the entire final fantasy series on it.

blah, blah, blah. you could really make your case very easily. provide a list of the games available in japan for the xbox 360.

the list of games by the publishers you named looked absolutely paltry to me. i don't see how it supports your case in the least.

funny. you claim i have a problem arguing and yet you have to put me on ignore in order to control yourself.

Sony created the console that wouldn't die, and it grew up to kick them in the nuts at a very bad time. I finally upgraded to an XBox 360, but when I walk out of the game store with a new 360 game, I usually also have two or three PS2 games in the same bag. As for the PS3, the only game it has that I'd care anything about is Ninja Gaiden Sigma. But I'm not paying 700 bucks just so I watch that ninja-babe's titties bounce, not that the temptation isn't there.

It is and always will be about the games. So far Sony has fallen flat.
