I was thinking about this today, and maybe y'all were watching him play contain too much, since he's been on the edge 50% of the time and won't do that in regular season. Granted, last game I was watching from endzone, and was therefore looking less at penetration, but still, I saw him running around a fair bit.

Then again I'm also not concerned with whether Davis is Brandon Short.

I think what people are concerned about is that he's getting walked down the field. No one expects him to blow up the blocking despite being a SLB, but it's troubling when he can't disengage and reach the ball carrier. He's not really made plays in coverage, and he's been almost entirely invisible against the run.

I'm not seeing that. I'm not seeing stellar, I'm not seeing him blow up against the run, but I'm not seeing him get blown up. I'm seeing solid play with more awareness than last year.

examples? and how is 'everyone' four people?

well, I don't want to go down that road of bickering over nonsensical symantics again. But nonetheless, with a media detailing a lot of negatives right now and players admitting weaknesses, and a lot of detail about playing in preseason, I haven't seen much mention of Davis at all, other than me pointing out how much he's playing on the edge, where none of us really expect him to be playing come first of the season. I'm going to get around to tape of the Pats game, if nothing else to see Davis, Beason, and Kalil - I'm not saying that Davis isn't what Collin's saying. I just haven't seen it this preseason and the supposed uproar had yet to be seen.

Fine. Every single person who has commented on Davis this preseason except you has expressed concern that he is not showing up. You said that he's been active, when there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever of that. At absolute best you might be able to argue that he hasn't been bad, but you can't legitimately pretend that he's been active.

This entire preseason he has four total tackles against the run and only seven tackles overall. When he shows up on screen, it's not knifing in to make a tackle, it's getting driven back past the camera by a blocker. I realize that you want to make it seem like Davis is excelling because you invested so much in arguing that he would be good at SLB (after initially suggesting that he'd be fine at safety), but that's just not the reality right now. Other LBs, both first and second string, are showing up much more than Davis this preseason.

I didn't say anything with motives. I didn't want this to be about that, because as far as I'm concerned that should've been resolved a long time ago. I made a comment that you had issue with, when no one else had said anything specifically negative about Davis before that. I didn't make a big issue about it, though.

again, no negative press about Davis right now. I'm not saying he was stellar and never did. I called him active. For his time out on the edge, which he shouldn't be, and given that he's also played snaps at ROLB in a 3-4 and dropped back to safety after faking a blitz, I'm not specifically worried personally, but again I don't expect him to be a space eater.
