    Do you leave your maters on the vine until they turn red? My father-in-law takes his off when they start turning, but I've always thought that was kinda soon.

    I try to let them get as red as possible on the vine. But when there are tons on the plant you'll have too many too ripe at the same time. You can pick them when they are still orange and they'll ripen fast enough.

    One problem leaving them on too long is it gives birds, squirrels and other critters more time to nibble - especially when it's drought time like it is now

    whatever you do, don't put that shitty-ass Dukey's mayo on your tomato sandwich. Go with Hellman's.
