Yes. I believe it's part of the CBA that every NFL team has to appear in one nationally televised game. That can mean MNF, Sunday night, or one of the nationally broadcast afternoon CBS or Fox games.

it would be there as part of (I would guess) a revenue sharing deal for the team to receive ad revenue cuts from national telecast, but that's only a guess.

if it's a CBA thing, then, it all boils down to $$$. interesting--never knew that proviso existed.

In the case of this years Panthers, the league got by it by putting them on an NFL network "nationally" televised game, no?

Maybe, but that rule has been in effect a lot longer than the NFL Network. I remember a couple of token Sunday night appearances during our lean years. If they are using the NFL Network as a National appearance they are really stretching the intent of that rule imo.

You might be right, I don't know. I hope those don't count, otherwise displaced fans might not to get to see their team. Weeks 3 or 4 at 4pm might end up counting as well depending upon the rest of Fox's lineup those weeks.

I was always under the assumption that the National games guaranteed each team were Sun Night/Mon night games, but it may have just been an assumption.

NFL Network/late sunday games just aren't the same, I didn't even realize there were national Sunday day games..

Either way, best of my knowledge that doesn't apply in the NBA. Like I said, the Bobcats were granted a national appearance against the Hornets in year one, but that appearance was cancelled a month or two before the game due to the Hornets exceedingly poor record. It certainly couldn't have been our record, as the suits didn't expect much out of us in year 1. If I remember correctly the Hornets won 19 games that year coming off a playoff berth, they ended up getting Chris Paul, to our Raymond Felton.

Yeah, gotta love late season wins screwing up draft position :nopity:
