I agree on Chem Lawn. I'm not going to use them anymore after this year. They are only supposed to come out two more times. The problem is, the do stupid stuff and continually call trying to sell more crap. I'm done with them.

Speaking of irrigation systems, I think I'm going to get one installed this winter. Beats the hell out of moving a sprinkler around all the time.

It has been my experience that you can fertilize in the heat of summer but you need to spread it very lightly. You're right to stay away from the high nitrogen blends until the weather cools.....if it ever does. Good Luck!!!

I thought by reading your post that you already had one. I would highly reccommend it. They are relatively inexpensive but you will always have a great lawn and you will save countless hours watering. Also, they irrigate more efficiently so you don' waste as much water. Not to mention it is a good selling point and you can't put a price on curb appeal.

Spend a little extra on a rain sensor and you will be glad you did. It gives peace of mind when you are out of town and keeps your lawn from being over-watered overnight.

since we're on the subject, i have a this patch of er... dirt... that seems like it just won't let anything grow.

i bought my house like 10 years ago and right away it seemed this little piece of my yard starting dying. started small, then slowly got worse and larger. finally a couple years ago i had it re-sodded and that didn't take at all. ignored it some more, finally figured that maybe there was something in the dirt -- like maybe somebody poured something like paint thinner or something in that spot, so i dug out a few inches of the top soil and replaced it and re-sodded again. again it all died, only this time it's a huge area from where the sod was planted.

i have absolutely no idea what is wrong here. i'm thinking it MIGHT be the sun cuz it's the northern most part of my lawn and i have decent shade mostly, but this spot might just get too much sun. is that possible?

Something is in the soil. Have you throught of getting a soil test? Some local universities may even do it for free or for just a small fee.

You can actually get the test done by your local Ag Extension Service. They will send off the samples for you.

Well, after nothing last year, brown patch is back with a vengance this year evidently due to the amount of rain as it hasn't been to terribly hot yet. I've seen it in several yards in the neighborhood. Put down some Armada (fungicide) last weekend and will do the second application this coming weekend. Hope it isn't to late. Anybody else seeing this crap this year?
