In one of the stadium bathroom stalls, someone wrote 'Jesus Is Coming, Be Prepared!!!' I figured that was a tribute to Minter.

However, the phone number listed right below it was not a tribute to Minter, as I found out the following Friday night.

the one pro bowl mills went to as a panther was hardly a pro bowl season, minter probably had 5 seasons as a panther better than any one of mills panther years...

and if it ain't all about stats, it's about the man off the field too, then i say again, minter & ruck would be just as deserving

Really? So you mean I wasn't being serious? I'd say it might have been a joke, but I don't tell those. :smart:

I'm guessing that you never met Sam Mills.

I consider meeting Sam on several occasions a very special memory. My husband was a big fan of Mills and he's not really the type to really like a particular player - just a team fan. After one post game at Founders Hall, Sam was leaving after a long evening and I convinced my husband to go just say great game to him or something - he'd always wanted to meet Sam but just didn't know what to say. Now Sam had every right to just leave - he'd done his post game autographs, interview on stage, questions, etc and his family was waiting for him this night. But he stopped, talked to my husband at length, laughing and smiling the whole time, shook his hand and patted his shoulder and then left.

Sam was truly a VERY SPECIAL human being which meant much more to me then his play on the field which I also loved. Losing Sam and then Fanz really left this world less bright.

Someone refresh my memory. About 4 years back when Tampa played here, I think it was Minter who laid Joe Jurvicious out on the Panther side of the field. It was around the 35 yard line. Needless to say the Jurivicious (sp) was done for the day. I remember being able to hear the pop of Minters pads all the way over at my seats on 10 yard line by Panther tunnel. Was that Minter who leveled the hit?

Mike Minter is plenty worthy of being honored with a statue for the honorable and highly respectable MAN he obviously is . . . however, as a football player (though solid) he has always probably been a small step below that statue level.

Whether or not he gets statuized he has earned respect from a lot more than just us football fans.
