The Panthers have called a press conference for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wofford College, and it doesn't take much of a reporter to know what it's for.
Veteran safety Mike Minter is going to announce his retirement.
The move comes as no surprise, given Friday's proclomation that he was thinking about it, given the condition of his knees.

Shit! I still say someone be it Hurney, the team doctor or Minter dropped the ball. This should not be happening in week 2 of training camp

What kinda money does this create as far as cap space goes.

Don't mean to ignore Minter retiring, simply looking for a bright spot outta it. Now more so I'd bring in a vet free agent. Simply due to the fact you don't have Minter there as a veteran presence.

He gave us several good years. It is a milestone for us as a franchise to have guys play out their whole careers for us and retire. Mangum and Minter both retiring this year gives the franchise some history.

We had cap space, so this won't make much of a difference.

Short-comings and all, it was nice to have Minter as a Panther. He can probably transition into coaching if he wants to.

don't know how it would be anyone screwing up. You can't come in thinking you know where your knees are going to be in August, when you're making plans to retire in January.
You could say we should've replaced him already, which is true.

We should have planned better for this day. Although they were pretty deft in landing Harris when they did. No ill will towards Minter on this one.

yeah, we should have a good young player. We have young players, but other than Harris, nothing that has earned a spot in this league consistently.

But now we can grab a veteran, even if there's a lot of age there, and be forced to make a more permanent move, even if it's not an awe inspiring one.
