Can anyone recommend any local vineyards within say a 3 hour drive from Charlotte? My wife is really getting into wine and dragging me along. I'd like to take her to a nice vineyard for some heavy tasting (wine that is)

easiest for you, most likely, will be Childress. 45 mins. up 85/bus85, not hard to find.

from Charlotte, the Yadkin Valley/Elkin area wineries are easy to access, about an hour up give or take. Raffaldini's good, Elkin Creek has a 4 star restaurant on site.

Chateau Morissette is further up, into VA, 2+ hours I'd guess since I've never come relative to Charlotte. One of the bigger region wineries. Music festivals 2x monthly.

Don't know any of the others, like Raylen, or any of the other wineries on that side of Winston. Biltmore is solid stuff, so I hear, but you'd as well just plan a trip to Asheville and try to snatch a visit to Highland Brewing.
