Oh really? Better tell my 360 then, cause Ive been playing all of my games @ 1920x1080 via component cables, and it looks fantastic.

    (hint: bucsfan's statement is inaccurate)

No, he's right. The normal 360 doesn't do 1080p, but it will do 720p or 1080i and those still look great. MS did add a software "fix" that will allow the 360 to resolve 1080p signals, but it doesn't display them at that resolution.

But Buc is not. He said it will only do 720p.

Completely incorrect & spoken like a typical Sony fanboy.

And Collin is wrong in as much as he said that Bus is right, before correcting him anyway.

PS - I play games at 1080p via my component cables on my 360. The fact that people cannot understand that and will pay through the nose for a 1080p carrier makes me want to profit on peoples' stupidity too.

That's all it will do unless you're talking about interlaced, and why would you? 720p is a better resolution than 1080i, so 720p is the best the 360 can do. Buc was correct, you are not.
What is it with the boards prominent lefties making fools of themselves in other forums? There is no particular reason to think buc is a "fanboy" of anything, he simply stated the facts.
No, you don't. The standard 360 will not display at the 1080p resolution. I checked to make sure that was correct and confirmed it through multiple sources. And by the way, as far as I know there haven't even been any games released that do 1080p on any system. Now please shut up before you embarrass yourself further.

Jesus this is fun, mainly cause you're such a shithead. This is from my buddy who is a prominent IP lawyer in Buckhead, with previous experience making TV components (engineering design - he was summa cum laude EE in undergrad) for Phillips-Magnavox:

In case you weren't aware, I have a Regza.

Collin, next time just admit when you aren't familiar with something. And don't argue with me about computers or electronics. The simple fact is, I know more than you, and no amount of personal insults that you sling will change that. Ask some people on the board who they ask for advice and my name will come up in the first 5.

You're right that some TVs are capable of de-interlacing 1080i input and weaving it, but according to what I have read, that's not the same as having the source in 1080p to begin with. It's almost as good, and there have been many internet arguments about whether the human eye can actually perceive the difference or if it's psychosomatic, but the fact is (from what I have read anyway) that from a technical perspective, taking apart an interlaced image and stitching it together is not the same as having a true progressive image.
I don't pretend to be an expert on electronics, but I do read enough to tell the difference between someone who does know what they're talking about and someone who is full of shit. You claimed that buc was wrong about the 360 only set up to handle 720p and 1080i. You were the one who was wrong and continues to be wrong despite everyone else informing you of that fact. The 360 isn't set up to handle 1080p, while the PS3 is. That's a fact, no matter how much time you spend disputing it.
I haven't ever seen anyone ask you for advice about anything, although I'll grant that I haven't looked. I have seen people ask Brain, however, and he has been telling you the same thing that I have.

BTW, did you decide on a console? Did any of the prior ramblings help?

Oh and FWIW... the XBOX 360 premiums and core systems will all have an HDMI interface soon. Well at least the new ones. The ones being currently released have HDMI. Problem is you chance getting a system without it when you go to buy a Core or Premium system until the stock without is gone.

    PS... I'm pissed about this.
