Falcons | No change in Babineaux case

Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports the attorney for Atlanta Falcons DT Jonathan Babineaux said there are no new developments in the felony animal cruelty case against Babineaux.

 

Something tells me that Vick involved him with some dogfighting in the past.

 

I think my nephew married a Blank Granddaughter or some relative. Don't really know the exact details, just remember when they got engaged and my brother-in-laws wife was telling me about it, she mentioned the owners of Home Depot and I thought "Boo hiss, Falcons"

 

Watching Sports Center this morning and they had a columnist from the Atlanta Journal on it. Prevailing sentiment, at ground zero so to speak, in Atlanta is split down race lines. Whites think what he is accused of is horrible while the black community thinks he is being singled out because he is black. With all the evidence and the fact the Feds are the ones going after him how can ANYONE defend him. Being a piece of shit knows no skin color

 

It won't matter even if he is convicted. Dave Chappelle did a fairly good job of explaining why black people don't even care about guilt or innocence when a black celebrity is accused. In fact, in some ways they like it even more when they're guilty and get away with it.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -Emmitt Smith thinks federal investigators targeted Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick to get to others involved in an alleged dogfighting operation.

"He's the biggest fish in the whole doggone pond right now so they're putting the squeeze on him to get to everyone else," Smith said Saturday.

Vick and three associates are accused of competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting, and conducting the enterprise across state lines. Vick is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in federal court in Richmond, Va.

Smith, who was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame on Saturday along with 19 others, was asked what he thought about the Vick situation. He said he believes federal investigators are trying to pressure Vick to turn on the others.

"Now, granted he might have been to a dogfight a time or two, maybe five times, maybe 20 times, may have bet some money, but he's not the one you're after. He's not the one you're after, he's just the one whose going to take the fall - publicly."


But Smith also placed some blame on Vick, saying athletes need to realize they have to break ties with some people from their past "because where we're going, it's not for everybody to come with us. You have to learn to cut some of those guys loose. Because the things that they do, we cannot do no more."

Smith, the NFL's career leading rusher, said young athletes have to make decisions about who they associate with because it could harm their careers.

"From an athletic standpoint, from an endorsement standpoint, from an investment standpoint, from a business standpoint, those doors are opening. The question is now, do you want to do the same old junk you've been doing for 18 or 20-something years, or do you want to step into the real world of business and handle your business like you're supposed to handle it?"

The Falcons have stated that they don't want Culpepper, but a lot of people make that connection anyway. Valid? No idea.

The notion that Vick firmly believes nothing will happen to him is easy to believe. Jay Glazer reported speaking to Vick last week and saying Vick was certain there was no way he'd be indicted. Glazer seemed to be questioning his grip on reality, and perhaps rightly so.

Vick's always come off as believing he's untouchable. Maybe that's a product of his on-field persona. Listening to him sometimes, you'd think he doesn't even believe he has critics. Of course, people who surround themselves with enablers often have rude awakenings when the real world crashes the party.

 

Goodell orders Vick to skip Falcons camp

The first of what could be a handful of actions taken against Michael Vick by the commissioner's office has been decided.

FOXSports.com has learned that commissioner Roger Goodell has ordered Vick not to attend Falcons training camp as his first step in determining Vick's future in the league. That would give the league office more time to assess the facts and judge additional facts that may come to light in the next month.
This is just the first part of what could be an extensive punishment for Vick's alleged involvement in a gruesome dogfighting operation at a property owned by him in Virginia.

There could also be a strong push to sit Vick down for the year while he clears up his personal problems. In fact, this action could even convince Vick to take a year-long leave of absence, which would certainly be the simplest resolution for all parties.

Vick is already facing federal charges for the dogfighting fiasco that has turned the Falcons upside down and could face state charges related to the operation.

Calls to the league office for comment have not yet been returned.
