Gantt had some figures on it today. He quoted the PFT report. Also said that a figure around 90 million is possible.

That might be more palatable to the fans who are worried about overpaying. People get funny when they see triple digit numbers.

7 years, $90 million is possible, yes. An extra year also naturally adds to the theoretical bonus money - $40 mil is a huge amount for 6 years, for 7 it's a bit of a boost up from the $30 over 6 contract years.

I like how our beat writers are so connected that their "sources" are internet rumor mills.

"Make no mistake, when this one comes in, it will be bigger than Freeney's. The consensus among a handful of agents and personnel types last week was that a seven-year deal worth $90 million probably wasn't out of line, with $35 million or more of that guaranteed. The industry insider website profootballtalk.com suggested a lower total and a higher initial payout (six years, $78 million, $40 million guaranteed) as another possibility. "

I agree but if you do stumble into a guy like Manning then it makes sense to pay him and keep him with some top wide outs.

I think now that Peyton knows he can beat the Pats in a big game that he will be less likely to have those playoff meltdowns. I really do not see their ring as a fluke. They beat the Pats to get it and that is pretty impressive even if the Bears were patsies.

They didn't beat the Patriots so much as New England imploded, which is obviously uncharacteristic for them. I write that off as a fluke, plus I don't think the Colts would have beaten San Diego.

Hard to say whether it was a great comeback or an implosion. Like you say though an implosion is unlikely from the Pats. The Pats really did not cleanly beat the Chargers. If not for that fumble that Mcree had after the pick then it is likely a Chargers win. To me the fact that they beat a tough defensive team in Baltimore in a close low scoring game and then had a big comeback against their biggest rival and team that constantly owned them in the past says a lot for them. I agree about Chicago, if anyone had been decent in the NFC last year they would have beat the Bears. I think if the Panthers had somehow lucked into a playoff spot they would have had an even or better chance of beating the Bears.

The Ravens held Indy to just 15 points, but Baltimore's offense was hideous. Not only were they inept when it came to scoring their own points, but they also turned it over four times.
