Anyone have it? The rumors section mentions MJ stopping a three team trade. It is listed with the Nets. I am curious but not enough to pay for it.

from NY Post. I like RJ but no thanks on this trade.

"July 20, 2007 -- The Nets' summer makeover came close to being far more drastic.

According to multiple league sources, the Nets were "very close" to completing a three-team trade that would have landed Lamar Odom from the Lakers while sending Richard Jefferson to the Bobcats. The Lakers, in turn, would have received Gerald Wallace from Charlotte.

"It was very close, but just didn't happen," said one league source.

The three-way talks flourished a few weeks ago, and one source insisted Charlotte part-owner Michael Jordan squashed the deal

I'd rather have Wallace than Jefferson.

Here's the actual quote from ESPN Insider... pretty much the same as alreadu posted though.

I bet that was a fall back in case we had to do a sign and trade with Wallace. I am glad it did not happen that way. MJ seems to be more astute as a GM than he was in Washington.

A sign and trade fallback would have been a good backup plan, but I would have been devastated to lose Wallace for Jefferson. It beats losing him for nothing I suppose, but I'm glad that didn't happen.

What am I missing? Richard Jefferson's career scoring average is substantially higher than Wallace's, and while his rebounding hasn't been as strong, he posts nearly double Wallace's assists. I'm not saying that Jefferson is clearly better, because I think Wallace's defense at least draws him relatively even, but you guys are talking like RJ is junk.

RJ is not junk but Wallace is a better all around player, IMHO. Plus it helps that he was "discovered" by the Bobcats and that they managed to keep him.

I do think it was wise to have a back up plan in place though. RJ would have been much better than letting Wallace walk for nothing.
