If the Reds made the offer the Braves would make it so fast your head would spin. Ask the Red Sox if they made a mistake trading him away.

The Red Sox basically gave him away, and last season notwithstanding, he's pretty mediocre. You're talking about trading the guy who is universally considered the best catching prospect in the game. If the Reds offered Arroyo plus someone like Johnny Cueto or Votto, that would be worth considering, but Saltalamacchia for Arroyo straight up would be dumb.

The thing you fail to realize is pitching is the most importmant commodity in baseball. Arroyo last year was 14-11 with a 3.29 era and 240 innings pitched for a bad Reds team. He was 14-10 in Boston the year before with 205 innings of work. He is 30 so he has 5 good years left and he is lefthanded. Check out the baseball commidity market on left handed pitching. It's hard to get good leftys. If Arroyo is on the market, and I suspect he IS NOT the Reds could get a lot more than Saltalamacchia for him. Salty is a great prospect but he is just that a prospect and I like him. Arroyo is a top of the rotation pitcher, a 1,2, or 3 starter depending on what team he is on.

No, it isn't. As much money as pitchers make, great hitters still make more than any pitcher. And Saltalamacchia has a lot more potential as a hitter than Arroyo does as a pitcher.
He did have a very good season last year, but do you really think people wouldn't realize that you left out his current numbers because they're so mediocre? His current ERA is 4.51, and his ERA in that last Boston season was also 4.51. He's just not a very good pitcher. He's an innings eater, which is useful, but he's not special.
You're delusional. Check any source you want, because they'll all tell you that Saltalamacchia for Arroyo would favor the Reds substantially. He is on the market, and the idea that they could get "a lot more than Saltalamacchia" is positively ridiculous. Remember, Boston traded him for Wily Mo Pena, which was essentially nothing.
Seriously, you're out of your mind. Arroyo is not a #1 or #2 starter. He is just a mediocre innings eater.

I think it says Thorman isn't panning out. I haven't been impressed with him all season. I'd like to think the farm system has something better than him in the pipeline. If not, they need to address it in the off season.

The Julio factor on the lineup was amazing.:29:

If he wants to, he'll be a coach in Atlanta one day.

They don't have much. There was an idea that if Van Pope built on his solid season in Myrtle Beach that he might be able to make the jump given that he is a major league ready defender at third base, thus moving Chipper over a less taxing position at first, but Pope's bat has really stalled this year in AA. No other corner infielders are particularly close to the majors, which is why you'll probably see Saltalamacchia move their for the foreseeable future.

Atlanta does have some outfielders like Brandon Jones who might be able to help fill Andruw's shoes, but outside of that the farm system looks a little bleak. It's been drained too much in the last couple of years and hasn't had time to rebuild. Matt Harrison is the top pitching prospect and he's not projected to be more than just a solid lefty at best.

    Andruw in cleanup spot

I realize he has gotten hot of late. However, I wonder how many more wins the Braves would have if Cox hadn't stubbornly inserted Andruw into the cleanup spot since day 1. I really don't get it.
