I think it may mean Wallace is gone. It could be that Morrison will be the starter and Carrol will back up him and Richardson. I hope not because regardless of where Morrison was drafted he is going to be better as a sixth man than a starter.

its way too early to call Morrison a bust. give the guy another year. not every player figures it out in the first year.

Carroll's deal I have no problem with. as noted it will look like a bargain in 2 years. Hes better than Kapono who got more money.

searching the web theres not any news about other teams going after Wallace.he was mentioned early on but not so much now. Memphis and Milwaukee are the only other teams that can offer him more than the mid level. I hear Memphis is going after Nocioni and Varejo. Mil is trying to figure how to deal with the chinese kid. only way anybody else can pay Wallace more is through a sign and trade. if that happens that says Wallace WANTS to go somewhere else, not that we didnt try and sign him. plus that means we would get something of value in return. I'm still hoping Wallace resign here. I dont know what is holding the Bobcats up.

A sign and trade might be worth doing if we could get a decent big man out of the deal.

See I'm hoping if they miss on Wallace they show they're still trying to be good by going after Darko.

The longer Wallace is unsigned the lesser our chances are to resign him I bet

Part of the rebounding game is not what you get but what you don't let your opponent get. Carroll boxes out and keeps his man from getting rebounds aswell. Also Matt plays SG which would naturally take him away from the basket more times than it would a small forward and thus lead to less rebounding opportunities.

Futhermore their games are not that similar. Just because they are both white doesn't mean they have the same game.

Carroll is a Sg and a pure shooter that spreads the defense (catch and shoot) although he is not afraid to put the ball on the floor after a good head fake gets his man in the air. Carroll is a more tenacious defender and gives more effort on that side of the ball. (will never be confused for a defensive stopper but though)

Morrison is a player that can knock down an open look but, its much more comfortable putting the ball on the floor and getting some contact to find out where his man is and being creative in order to get his shot off. Morrison is also more effective than Carroll at drawing the help defender and dishing the ball off to an open man.

I have high hopes for both players and AMMO has a higher ceiling but also a higher bust potential ( Not sure a guy from the D-League could be considered a bust).

Having both of them on the team is far from redundant.

As far as the #3 pick on a sixth man.... Chicago used the #3 pick on Ben Gordon a few years ago and he comes off the nech as the 6th man alot.

4.5 is not significant cap space. It's less than MLE.

I know your a novice at the basketball thing but, you do know the NBA doesn't have a hard cap like the NFL right?

I like the sound of this.... especially at the end!!

    Carroll Reaches Agreement, Wallace Next?
Jul 5 - On Wednesday, Matt Carroll agreed to a contract and the team is growing more and more confident Gerald Wallace will agree to a contract soon.
Carroll agreed to a six-year contract worth approximately $27 million, his agent confirmed Wednesday.

"We had a lot of choices," said Carroll's agent, Paul Nadel. "But Matt wanted to keep his family in Charlotte. The contract and structure of the contract are set to help out Charlotte in later years with its salary cap flexibility."

Meanwhile, sources within the Bobcats organization are getting more and more hopeful an announcement will soon be made on the re-signing of Wallace. -- Gaston Gazette

So this is your way of pretending that you weren't wrong?
No, it doesn't mean that necessarily, but the two are very similar. It's true that Morrison has more of a drive and pull up game, but he's also supposed to have perimeter skills like Carroll.
Actually it is, especially when both are backups. It's one thing to say that you need a perimeter shooter off the bench in addition to one starting, and quite another when both are riding the pine.
    That's a fair point.
It's almost half of what we expect to pay Wallace, and thus could factor into how much we offer. The problem is that when you keep adding mid-level salaries this way, it adds up and prevents you from having money for better players.
Not novice enough that I thought Carroll was a good rebounder.
Sure, but I also know that you can't bring in outside players except on exceptions when you're up against the cap, and do you honestly mean to tell me that quality players are going to choose Charlotte's MLE above other teams? The advantage of Charlotte's cap space is that they could go out and get quality guys. If they re-sign Wallace, then they can't do that with anyone else. It's not so much that Carroll's contract alone is the difference between adding and not adding a solid big man, but it certainly doesn't help, and taken together with other contracts it means that they don't have as many options. In the end, it just doesn't make sense for a mediocre team to pay that much money to a one-dimensional shooter who comes off the bench when you already have a #3 overall pick invested in a guy who is a one-dimensional shooter who comes off the bench.

Well Morrison is (relatively) cheap right now and Carroll gives them a bailout plan if Morrison doesn't pan out.

Also, 4-6M seems to be the going rate for "quality 3pt specialists" if you consider guys like Brent Barry, Kapono Damon Jones, Horry, etc.

They also mentioned that the contract was structured to give Bobcats room down the road, so I assume it's frontloaded.

I've really not heard anyone bitch about this. If they go out and sign another jumpshooting wing, yeah, we might have something to complain about, but it's too early for that.

The Spurs have 2 guys who are 3pt specialists with Horry and Barry to go along with Manu and Finley.

And so we'll have Morrison and Barry to go along with Richardson and Wallace.

What this does complicate is the Herrmann situation in a year or so.

LOL, actually I'm not wrong I said Carroll was a better rebounder and the fact that he avg'd the same amount of boards in less minutes makes me correct... ( although the difference is minimal and not worth arguing over.)
There is 96 minutes to be spilt between those 4 guys every game. I think it's plenty of time to get enough PT for all to be effective. I also believe having 4 guys protects us versus injury as we have a compotent starter and still have a player that can come off the bench and contribute for those 20 or so games that we will need someone besides J-Rich and Crash to start.

That depensd on wht you expect to pay Gerald.... If we could get Gerald for 9 million that would be great it's just not gonna happen IMHO. I think it's going to be 11 or 12 which would make 4.5 million only about 33-40% of what we are going to pay Gerald

But, still novice enough not to know that being a better rebounder than Adam still doesn't make you good!:ack2:

The thing is I don't think Charlotte could go out and sign any big ticket FA because we aren't established enough to make them want to come here. I think the way to build and use our cap space is exactly the way we are doing it. We are using the Cap space by retaining our own players and trading for a player that is locked in 4 years... I think they have done a pretty damn good job of building this team and using the cap...

In theory we could save the rest of our cap space and make a run for Garnett next season(he wouldn't come) and after we signed him we could use our Bird rights and resign Emeka. That would put us over the cap but, it wouldn't matter because our roster would be set for the next 4-6 years and we wouldn't need anybody that would command more than the MLE.

    Just my 2 cents.
