just the RFA Gantt listed, who was around $1.2 mil/year (that's no longer listed, now that it's updated). RFA's a bit different to begin with, but he's not the player Baker is.

what were the terms? Are the two years you listed cap hits, or just salary? Salary isn't equitable to the things we know about Baker's deal.

I can't find anything for punters for this year. Here (from USAToday) are the 2005 numbers for punters
    Maynard, Brad Bears $ 800,000 $ 900,000 $ 4,290 $ 1,704,290 $ 1,334,290
    Sauerbrun, Todd Broncos $ 1,200,000 $ 0 $ 100,000 $ 1,300,000 $ 1,300,000
    Hanson, Chris Jaguars $ 1,000,000 $ 0 $ 4,400 $ 1,004,400 $ 1,264,400
    Hentrich, Craig Titans $ 765,000 $ 535,000 $ 1,003,300 $ 2,303,300 $ 1,252,050
    Gardocki, Chris Steelers $ 1,000,000 $ 0 $ 2,200 $ 1,002,200 $ 1,214,700

With the way the salaries went up with the new deal it might be close

It's the total cap value, including base and bonus.

Wonder what ever happened in that suit about the cats on his tree?:

    http://grg51.typepad.com/steroid_nation/2007/02/trifecta_for_fo.html

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- In a spat over a cat and her kittens, Carolina Panthers punter Jason Baker, Carmel, is slated for court Wednesday.

The Indiana native is hoping to wrest $2,000 -- and 8 percent interest -- from a former Carmel neighbor for kitty-cat damages to his home's crawl space.

The defendant in his Hamilton County lawsuit, flight attendant Helen Middleton, thinks Baker should just, well, punt.

"These are wild, feral cats, but since I fed them and gave them water . . . he said that I should be responsible," Middleton said today. "I told him you're after the wrong person; you need to go after the builder who never sealed it up properly."

Besides their use of his crawl space as a roomy nest and litter box, Baker also complained of the cats' destruction outdoors: using his tree as a scratching post.

Brian Moorman signed a contract that will pay him $10 million over the next six years, which is a little less per year than what Baker received, although Moorman has made the Pro Bowl each of the last two seasons.

Well, if someone murdered moorman, then it would make baker's deal seem better on a leaguewide available talent basis.

How hard can it be to kill a punter?

Sauerbrun tried and tried but could never seem to do it.

Moorman's probably more deserving, but Baker's been up there too. Doesn't make me feel better about putting a league leading contract into a specialist, but makes me feel better when other teams are willing to go with that same market. Don't think any punter's really worth that, but the cap's changed a lot in the few years since the last big contracts Heinrich and Sauerbrun signed long term.
