Thanks for the update Solarte. Good to see MJ still wants Wallace back.

It's good to be a Bobcat fan this morning, for once.

Richardson looks like a good deal for Wright and I'm sure the Warriors are just as happy with it. They needed size and Wright has that. The second rounder from Boma will probably never see a regular season game without a ticket though (the usual thing I think in the NBA). All in all a good deal for the Bobbers if Richardson's knee doesn't become a chronic thing.

Dudley at 22 was a steal, from what I've read the Spurs were all over him if he fell to them, so with the Spurs success I'm guessing they know a little bit about drafting players. When the Heels played BC he was the main guy I worried about.

    Maybe B- for the draft.

Portland and Seattle hit homers all night in the draft. Felt like Paul Allen bought an extra 10 picks in the draft :). Zach Randolph loose in NYC will turn Isaiah Thomas bald within the year.

This was a pretty nice move, IMHO. They get a player who can score and has name recognition. They have a pretty good mix now if they can get Wallace back. They are still weak at center but most teams are. Morrison coming off the bench is probably the best thing for him. Felton, Richardson, Wallace, May and Okafor is a pretty good but small lineup. Brezec, Morrison, Herrman and Carroll (if we bring him back) are pretty good depth.

The franchise is probably more happy to drop some salary. Reading an article at Yahoo, the Baron contract and JRs was more than Golden State wanted
The yahoo article had strippers in NYC as winners by having Randolph as a regular customer :euro:

I agree wholeheartedly about Wright being the BPA, and am glad to see that the B-Cats were drafting for GS. Can someone refresh my memory how the Larry Bird rule works? Also Brain you said teams with free agents also had to wait until July 1st to resign them. I thought I had read where a couple of players had come to terms with their teams to stay. Are they just agreeing to a contract and then resign on July 1?

    from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Salary_Cap#Larry_Bird_exception

    Larry Bird exception

Perhaps the most well-known of the NBA's salary cap exceptions, it is so named because the Boston Celtics were the first team permitted to exceed the salary cap to re-sign one of their own players (in that case, Larry Bird). Free agents who qualify for this exception are called "qualifying veteran free agents" or "Bird Free Agents" in the CBA, and this exception falls under the auspices of the Veteran Free Agent exception. In a nutshell, the Larry Bird exception allows teams to exceed the salary cap to re-sign their own free agents, at an amount up to the maximum salary. To qualify as a Bird free agent, a player must have played three seasons without being waived or changing teams as a free agent. This means a player can obtain "Bird rights" by playing under three one-year contracts, a single contract of at least three years, or any combination thereof. It also means that when a player is traded, his Bird rights are traded with him, and his new team can use the Bird exception to re-sign him. Bird-exception contracts can be up to six years in length.

REMOVED AFTER READING CLAY'S POST ABOVE THIS ONE:

DJ--MJ wanting GW back doesn't necessarily mean he will be, but again, I was amazed at how they (Bobcats personnel) continued to throw his name around as a starter for next season. They must have a good sense about paying GW $10m/season, because realistically, that is what it will take to bring him back. If GW takes less money to go somewhere else, that's a bad reflection of the Bobcats franchise.

That's what I thought it was but since Charlotte is one of the few teams with serious money to sign free agents I didn't think they were in trouble up against the cap keeping them from signing a Rashard Lewis, Chauncey Billips or more reasonably Gerald Wallace type of player

If they get Wallace back they should be expected to make the playoffs, if they stay healthy. They may only be a good center away from being a contender in the east.

I didn't think they would go over the cap even if they gave Wallace a max deal, which they really shouldn't. The Bobcats do need him, but he's not worth a max deal.
