    Could happen. Per ESPN Insider
    Mega-Deal In The Works?
Jun 25 - The owners of the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves have begun talks for a trade that would involve sending Kevin Garnett to the Lakers, league sources said Monday.
A multi-team trade discussion is underway involving the Lakers, Indiana, Minnesota and possibly a fourth team, with the Lakers getting Garnett and the Pacers getting Lamar Odom and teenage center Andrew Bynum from the Lakers. Another minor player will likely be added to make the deal work financially. -- Los Angeles Times

Despite reports to the contrary, sources confirmed last night there is still life to a Celtics deal for Kevin Garnett. It was also stated strongly that the club would never make such a move before it had an agreement with the Timberwolves star on a contract extension.
The word last night is that the sides are letting the dust settle before revisiting the proposal this week. It remains uncertain whether all the requirements for a transaction -- agreement on the principles, Garnett's acceptance of an extension - can be arranged, but the topic is still on the table for the two clubs. -- Boston Herald

People who know say the Timberwolves have received trade inquiries for Kevin Garnett from more teams than just the oft-reported Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics. And regardless of whether Garnett is traded by NBA draft time on Thursday, the Wolves are planning on making at least one other deal.
Word is a Wolves-Suns deal that would feature Garnett for Amare Stoudemire has stalled but is still in the works. Initially, the Wolves wanted Stoudemire, 24, for Garnett, 31, but the Suns were offering Shawn Marion, 29.

The Wolves don't want Marion, so the Suns tried to peddle him to Boston through Minnesota VP Kevin McHale's old pal, Celtics director of basketball operations Danny Ainge, in a convoluted three-team deal that would result in the Wolves getting Paul Pierce and Boston's No. 5 pick in the draft, among other considerations. -- St. Paul Pioneer Press

Timberwolves GM Kevin McHale is said to be interested in only a limited number of prospects in this draft. Minnesota has the No. 7 pick and McHale supposedly wants a higher pick, which hurts the Bulls at No. 9. That's why there is serious talk of a deal with the Celtics, who have No. 5. Some insist that deal isn't dead yet, and talk of another trade continues to have legs.
All the particulars aren't established, but the basics are the Suns get Garnett, the Celtics get Shawn Marion and the Timberwolves get the No. 5 pick, the Hawks' unprotected first-round pick for next season, which the Suns hold, the Suns' two firsts this year (No. 24 and 29) and the expiring contracts of Kurt Thomas and Theo Ratliff. -- Chicago Tribune

Kobe and Garnett or even more Nash, Stoudemire and Garnett would a tough tandem

I think the Celtics have already pulled the plug on this one.

What's the huge deal about Garnett? He's great in fantasy basketball, sure, but what has he done in the actual NBA besides pad stats? Odom is a lesser player, but not by enough to throw in Bynum. Kobe has made L.A. desperate and even more stupid.

Garnett or Kobe by themselves is nothing. Together they could feed off of each other. Assuming Kobe would pass the ball. Personally I do not want Garnett to play with Kobe. I loathe Kobe

I can't see why the Suns would even consider trading a 24 yr old Amare Stoudemire for a 31 year old Garnett.

Did you just ask "what's so great" about a guy who's averaged 22, 12 and 5 over the last 9 years?

    This is a troll, right?

No, it's a legitimate question. The guy fills up the stat sheet, but his teams don't win, especially in the playoffs. Now I'll certainly grant that much of it had to do with his supporting cast, but not even one playoff series? What superstar can't do that? Garnett to me is a very good but not great player. He is high effort and does plenty of things to impact the game, but doesn't carry his team to victories the way that superstars do. Odom is a lesser player but still very talented in his own right, and Bynum is one of the more promising talents at center. In exchange for those two, the Lakers would get a guy who hasn't won and has a ton of miles on his odometer.

    Edit:
Expanding on that last point, Garnett has played 927 games, and the career arc of guys after one thousand games played isn't pretty.

I understand your point, but to be fair, Garnett has played in the Western Conference finals once. He's also much better than Odom, come on now.

You're right, that's my mistake. He lost in the first round seven straight years before winning two series in '03-'04. As for Odom, I think there's less of a gap than you believe. Garnett is a much better rebounder and defender, but Odom is a better passer and shooter. Both guys are supremely talented, Garnett is just a little more athletic and a lot more aggressive. I think his numbers would come down substantially on a team where he wasn't the focus, like Odom.
