Ive said his stats werent anything amazing, but that was his first year starting. And while you bring up the 3 straight losses it should be noted that he led them to 3 wins prior to that. Plus Smith was as much to blame for that 3rd loss as Zwick, they both sucked it up. Interesting to note that the first loss was to Basanez Northwestern, followed by a trouncing by Iowa who racked up almost 300 yards rushing that day. Its fair to say the D had more than there share of input in that historic loss.

Thanks for the spell check, weve been there done that. A bit deceptive on your part saying he didnt play well using those numbers, no it wasnt a quaterbacks dream game but he was very solid going 17/23 in the first game and 17/27 1TD and no Ints with a 96.1 QB rating in the second. He protected the ball and was very solid. Id say he played well in those 2 games, one a bowl game both victories.

Partly true and again deceptive, the double digits you refer to was 10 points. I certaintly wouldnt suggest Smith led them back, that game was a field goal slugfest and Smith was given alot of short fields by the USU D he failed to capitalise on. He did throw 1 TD, but Zwick had 1 TD pass that could have put the game away for OSU inexplicably dropped. It WAS Zwicks fumble that led to the Texas winning TD before Smith gave up a safety in the dying seconds. I'll agree that Smith showed he was a better athlete than Zwick that game. But they platooned throughout the game and it looked like Zwick could win the game for them too in the 3rd. They were both remarkably mediocre all game long

Zwick did deserve to play, Troy was coming off a suspension and Zwick had the two decent games prior to that.

Dude, it's Ohio State, not the NFL. I don't know how familiar you are with college football, but playing .500 ball at Ohio State is a disaster.
Huh? Smith was 8 of 11 for 76 yards and the team's only touchdown in that game against Iowa. He played extremely well, although I will say that the blowout obviously wasn't just Zwick's fault. He was terrible, but the defense was too.
He was mediocre, which is fine in some games, but not enough against quality opponents. Remember that the bowl game was against a weak Oklahoma State team.
Actually that isn't correct. I don't know if you actually saw the game or are just relying on the box score, but Kirk Herbstreit and the other commentators were saying immediately after the game that they felt Ohio State would have won if they had played Troy Smith the whole game. Some of them were also wondering during the first quarter why Tressell wasn't replacing Zwick.
I can understand the discipline angle, so it's fair to say that Zwick "deserved" to play in that idealistic sense. But in terms of who was the better quarterback on the field, there was no question before that game that it was Troy Smith. His continued benching was one of the running controversies during the broadcast.

Smith is a better prospect than Zwick. I never was a big fan of Smith but he didn't really deserve to go 7th round, and the guys that went in the 2nd certainly didn't do enough to make themselves 2nds. But regardless, I don't think Smith is special and Zwick certainly doesn't seem to be either. He might be an interesting side story like Rod Rutherford or Kelly Stouffer, or that kid who was a washout at ND and then played a year for Indiana University of Pennsylvania - whose name I can't remember at all.

I wish him luck. He doesn't matter. If he could be something, that'd be great, but it's highly unlikely.

I guess that's June for you. Nothing else to talk about except who will be our emergency QB.

Fwiw, I like Baz. I definitely didn't want to throw him in at the end of last year, but he has some decent things to offer. If we can teach him how to read defenses then he could be a good back-up down the line. Needs to be a lot more accurate, too.

    1) jake
    2) carr
    3) baz

We probably won't even dress 3 QB's unless Davidson really pushes for it.

I was a little surprised we didn't dress 3 before. I'm glad it didn't bite us in the ass. Maybe that was initial reaction to the idea that Lefors was worse than we expected, but it was odd. I don't know if I'd expect that again.

Plus, I don't know if it's a June thing, or the coincidental mention of Troy Smith.

We're not the only team that does it. But I agree that dressing a 3rd QB is more important than dressing a Kevin McCadam.

Collin is probably dumbfounded by this. You both agree on a topic
