The 7-9 Bandwagon

not to be a snot, but how is this year's team any weaker than the team everyone was predicting to go to the SB last year. seems to me there's reason for more optimism (if you can get more optimistic), not less.

I don't know if we're better or worse than last year. Physically, we're about as talented as we were on paper before. There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic.

The idea is we were a better team with Keyshawn than without. Is the loss catastrophic? No. Was it unnecessary? To me, yes.

 

Headcase,,, I agree with Magnus,,,, dropping Key now is just hard to figure.

It isn't so much that Keyshawn made us a better team, but he had experience, even national sports analysts are questioning the timing of us releasing him now. Keyshawn could've helped us one more year. As of now, we have no 2nd receiver that other teams must respect. I think Jarrett will be great in time, but right now hes still an unproven rookie.

I agree our young guys will get more reps now that Key is gone, but the sudden change is going to bring about uncertainty and growing pains. Honestly with the several questions I thought we had going into the draft, I didn't think WR was one of them,,,,, now the recieving corps IS a question after this move.

No its not GLOOM AND DOOM,,,,but its looking more and more like we're rebuilding. And that is not accepted well either.

Btw, I will agree looking at our overall talent and who we picked up in the draft gives us reason to be optimistic about the future,,,,,,,, but try telling that to Steve Smith, who knows he's staring at triple-teams and muggings every Sunday this year.

 

I could care less if we had Key or not...I'd still pick 7-9...I don't set my hopes to high, that way I'm not real disappointed, but could be REAL pleased if they do better than I expect.

 

I would just like to point out that we made the NFC Championship Game in 2005 with Keary Colbert across from Steve Smith and a broken down Stephen Davis as our primary RB for half the season.

 

we weren't really good as a team until we got a spark from Foster. And by that time they'd replaced Colbert for the most part, Proehl had gotten as many targets over the same time.

And that might've been easy schedule, or getting on a run, but can't count on that stuff happening again.

I would like to think we learned something from what Seattle did to us in that NFC championship game having only one receiver.

Talent wise, it certainly is a questionable move. BUT if he was viewed as a locker room cancer as has been stated in a few reports, now is the time, before the cancer can spread too far to allow recovery.
