DId I spell that shit right? I just got up and this thought occurred to me...

We just gave Jarret and his agent all the bargining power they ever could have hoped for before he caught the first pass in mini camp or sat down for the first negotiation. I know it isn't as bad as if he'd been a 1st rounder but still he can demand voidable years or whatever the fuck he wants to now.

Hurney must be losing his damn mind. Or either Key got caught dropping an upper decker in JR's private bathroom....

Initially I'd say no. He's a second rounder and he's generally going to fall in the payscale around the other guys.

But they did, without any solid reason, give Weinke a five year contract high on bonus in the fourth freaking round.

I thought Weinke's first deal was a fairly normal 4th round deal but it contained big time escalators if he won the starting spot? Of course, with Lewis as the only thing close to a threat on him winning the starting spot, it was the same as giving him the money straight up.

it was a five year deal. 4th rounders never get 5 years. It had incentives that would've paid up to $20 mil.

you don't have to give that to any player on the second day.

I was thinking in terms of the base dollars without the incentives/escalators. He did get a half mill to sign which seemed high for a second day pick, but wasn't high enough to prevent his being cut. That was pre-Hurney. Has he done anything like this? His poorer deals seem to be on the FA side.

500K is a ton to sign.
    Hurney negotiated this deal

I thought one of Jerry's kids handled the time between Polian and Hurney being named GM and Hurney was just the "salary cap guy" during that time?

Hurney negotiated all contracts from 1999 to today. Capers was the default GM in 98, and Dom Anile stepped up (and then immediately left after the draft). Hurney and Bushofsky were added to fill the void of Polian's guys leaving/being fired in different cases. Hurney's role was contracts.

Stinky Winky was a QB, not the same for other positions.

how many other quarterbacks in the second round have signed deals like that? Ever, in the history of the league.
