Something must have happened recently. We paid him a 3 million dollar bonus just one month ago. You don't just throw 3 million dollars of cap room down the drain. We can't get that back. It's dead money once it is paid, in full to this year's cap, unless we prorated it. And that's still stupid.

Something happened recently that pissed the team off.

As far as Key's lack of effort, hc, damn. I can't remember how many times Key went up for a ball last year and took a big hit. He had drops, but so did smitty. There was no lack of effort.

And the only QB he threw under the bus was Weinke, after he'd been cut.

It's absolutely stupid to cut him after you've already paid him 3 million.

6-10 or 7-9 this season. Carter and Colbert, the "Not Ready for Primetime" WR's or a rookie that considered himself better than Calvin Johnson that managed to drop to the 2nd round due to lack of interest. The possibilities are mind boggling... as well as disturbing. I remind our faithful readers of a time not so long ago in the NFC Championship when a team called the Seahawks locked up Steve Smith and basically shut the Panthers 100% down. Still haven't got a TE that knows whether to catch the football or trip over his own feet, not to mention a running game that strikes fear into no one. Perhaps we could consider a virgin OC who we have no clue about how he will manage the position. This could be an ugly season...

He didn't mention all the passes Smith dropped last year either. Or the dying ducks Delhomie chucked up. Other than that.. what's your point?

Apparently this is untrue and bad information circling (due to PFT i believe).

Yas says we only paid him 1 mill in April.

No $3 million bonus for Johnson

Let's clear up a little matter here before it gets too wide-spread: The Panthers DID NOT pay Keyshawn Johnson a $3 million roster bonus on April 1, as has been reported elsewhere and has fans scratching their heads.
The Panthers did pay Johnson $1 million April 1. But that was deferred money from the signing bonus he agreed to when he initially signed with the Panthers. Johnson also was due a $1 million reporting bonus at the start of training camp. Obviously, he won't get that money and it won't count against the salary cap.

LOL! Either ABC got their info from PFT, or vice-versa. I don't know which is worse.

I've always been a huge fan of Keyshawn, but I gotta say...I'm not the least bit disappointed by this move.

Third down just got a little harder.

But we're not totally screwed here. Jarrett and Robinson will play, it appears. Unless I missed the memo, I don't think Colbert magically stopped sucking after this release, so I'd still be shocked to see him around.

This is a surprising move but it really does not bother me that much. I thought Keyshawn underperformed last year. He had decent numbers but when we needed him to make a big play he always come up short. We lost two games on interceptions of passes in the end zone meant for Keyshawn. You can argue all you want about whose fault they were but this move tells me Fox thinks they were on Key.

I hope we bring in a veteran tight end like Doug Jolley now because he could take some pressure off Jarrett and Carter.
