I've been digging up and re-doing my vegetable garden. I've never grown potatoes before, but want to give it a go this time around.

Has anyone ever grown them before - and how hard was it? I've been a bit slap-dash this time around...lots of good, rich soil and just thrown in some seeded spuds to see what will happen.

My tomatoes are late this year, but are coming along beautifully. My herbs are all up and racin' and other stuff is coming up sweet too. It's got to be the most satisfying thing - growing your own fruit and veges - :drummer:.

    Anyone else do it?

I did it last year and have some in the ground right now. Cut the potatoes so you have at least one eye(that would be the area that the little legs grow out if you leave them in the dark cabinet to long). Did a hole and cover them up. When the plants start to come up you can just add more dirt.

Good tip - thanks dbj! I didn't cut them around the eye - so, I dunno if I'm gonna get anything this season...:fingerscrossed:. Good tip for next season though! Thanks -.

Cheers OoS! I got the seeded ones - check...but didn't do anything with the straw (man, if anything comes of this, it will be a miracle!). Next time though - :cheer:.

    Thanks again!

The seed potato thingy came from someone who made that mistake they first planted their own garden (I'm soooo embrassed). Mounding them up with straw makes it easier for them to grow vs. in the soil and it makes it a lot easier to see 'em and tell when they are ready. You don't have to keep digging up the soil to find them.........just rake out the straw and if you're gentle doing it you won't damage the smaller ones and they can be buried again and gotten later when they get bigger.

Hell......I don't know a lot of shit......but I grew up a farm where we had a HUGH garden!!
