I blame the gun control lobby, personally.

you'll note that i said before the 80's and not during the 80's.

nobody was bigger than the game before the age of superstars. i'd say the new nba started around the time of magic and bird. it's become less about sport and more about stars.

I actually enjoyed NBA games in the 70s. Real games, not so much theater. A foul was a a foul and an infraction an infraction, regardless of the player.

    remember three to make two?

This is just stoopid. They fined Duncan $25,000, right?

I have to guess that if you did something worth a 25k fine, then your ass probably deserved to be thrown out.

I could be wrong, but I think they fined him for what he said after he was thrown out. I know that when they showed replays of him walking off the court he was yelling curse words at Crawford.

The NBA should adopt the same rules used by college basketball. Shorten the season from 82 games down to about 50. Make the first round of the playoffs a three game series and the following rounds five games and only the finals should go to seven. The season should end shortly after the college basketball season ends. They are way too over-exposed.

agree. the lock-out shortened season was actually good because there were only 50 games. each counted more and the season was more interesting.

and the playoff format should be changed. first round should be the best of four like it used to be. the best team always wins a best of seven,so no real chance for an upset. and quit dragging a series out for two weeks. people lose any interest they may have had....

i didn't start watching the nba till the mid 80's, but every classic game i catch that is pre-1980, i'm amazed at how the players basically don't react to calls. the whistle blows and the guys take the ball out or line up for free throws. it's so different from how it is today.

plus, i suppose, the camera coverage is less, so maybe there's arguing going on but you don't get to see it cuz they don't have a camera aimed at every player.
