Panthers willing to trade Jenkins

Carolina defensive tackle Kris Jenkins is working out with a personal trainer, preparing for the possibility he will be traded, his father said Wednesday.

Darome Jenkins,speaking from his home in Hawaii, said Kris called him after seeing the Observer's story on the subject of a possible trade. St. Louis, Denver and Kansas City are among teams rumored to be interested.

"He took it all in stride; he said, `Well Dad, I've got to go see my trainer,' " Darome said.

Kris, who played at Maryland, is working out with a trainer and using the school's facilities.

"That's why he went up to Maryland, to get in shape without the distractions there might be in Charlotte," his father said. "They work him hard over at the university. I'm sure he's doing what he's got to do to get his weight down."

The Panthers prefer Jenkins to play at about 335 pounds, but he has drifted considerably higher in other offseasons. Last year, though, he was healthy and made the Pro Bowl after missing almost all of the two previous seasons with injuries.

Jenkins' agent, Tony Paige, has advised him not to speak to the media.

I thought that his weight issues were fairly minor (for a 340# guy) up until he went on IR the first time in 2004. I think this is more of an opportunity to move him while he has some value or at least we can sell it that way.

 

His salary is totally reasonable. He's paid slightly more than Kemo.

Hell - his low salary is likely a trade point.

 

I want him to stay. He has always been one of my favorites.

 

yeah. Take that $3 mil, roll $2 mil into signing bonus, and you have a reasonable cap hit for 08-09 and just $2 mil for your new Pro Bowler for 07. Everyone has $2 mil for that.

I don't know that Jenkins would be all about a new contract right off unless he was unhappy about the trade.

 

I jumped right to here this morning, so forgive me if this has been posted.

If the chiefs are interested in Jenks, and now the chiefs have Hall on the trading block, would we not consider it needing another decent WR and definitely a return man- and hopefully maybe a pic too in the process?

 

Hall would fill the void as a return man, and would be a fine #3 or #4 WR. He'd never make it as a #1 or #2 WR though.

 

Frankly, Hall really hasnt been much of a #4 or 4 WR for the Chiefs last year and maybe the year before. Of course last year with the whole transition to a new coach and loosing Green for a while and then having him look like crap when he came back, didnt help.
