In 2003, Tony Banks dropped back to pass 102 times for the Texans and was sacked 13 times.

In 2003, David Carr dropped back to pass 295 times and was sacked 15 times.

    FWIW.

Carr was sacked more than 12% of the time he dropped back, Delhomme less than 6% of the time.

Are you referring to the only other Panther I can think of who wore that number? If so, yeah.

I spent a good portion of the day reading different sources on Carr, including one quite lengthy analysis of he and Kubiak's interaction by Peter King (link here).

Common themes I've found written about him are as follows:

    Pros

    - mobile and athletic
    - decent arm
    - has toughness
    - won awards in college

    Cons

    - not known as a leader
    - needs work on reading Ds
    - sometimes holds the ball too long
    - better short passer than longballer

Somehow, this profile sounds vaguely familiar to me.

Carr is obviously an upgrade over Weinke or he wouldn't be here. Still, I find it kind of interesting that their profiles as far as perceived strengths and weaknesses bear some definite similarities.

Based on what I've read, the best case scenario for Carr would be to sit this year and either not play a down or play very little. It sounds like he almost needs to be retrained from scratch, but the good thing is that even he himself sees that and he's quite willing to accept that role.

I'd definitely say good decision by the Panthers, but it may need for a few things to fall just right for them to get maximum benefit of it.

Banks wasn't the fleet of foot guy either.

    *that
*the fact someone put time into it
    *that they're photoshopped
    *see above, add "really crappily"

I wouldn't mind debating that mobile part.

Great article, too. Yeah, Carr's got some talent. And apparently, no, he can't read a D at all.

Well, you wouldn't be debating me specifically on that. I was just giving one of the descriptions that kept coming up in what I read.

So Carr did a lot better behind the same line that year than Banks from a sack standpoint?

Worst case scenario, he's Weinke with the ability to run a little.

Thought about it this morning and looked up his wonderlic:

    24 compared to Harrington's 32, Ramsey's 32, McCown's 30. Fasani's 25.
Eric Crouch had a 24, too.

wouldn't mind seeing some of that. Did find an nfl.com writeup on him, but it also lauds him as a leader, with a quick release, "ready to fire at any second". And I haven't seen a ton of that.
